The Host ~ is on it's way to the big screen....... by Amy

The Host: A Novel
I am very excited about The Host becoming a major motion picture. I thought it would be fun to cast the movie myself. Some may agree with my choices and some will totally think I'm crazy. I recently spoke of about this book on Tuesday and as you can tell, it is definitely one of my favorites!

Stephanie Meyer is such a good writer, so inventive and creative. Her inspiration for the Twilight Series has been known to be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte', Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and of course Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte'. To tell you the truth, as you may have already known, I have not read The Twilight Saga. Sad but true.

Stephanie will be working with Nick Wechsler ( Reservation Road, Time Travelers Wife, North Country ) and to have Andrew Niccole ( Lord of War, The Terminal, The Truman Show and Gattaca ) writing the story line... sounds like a winner to me. Gattaca is a great example of a sci-fi thriller on the big screen that I want to see~ only better ~ for The Host!

So, CHEER'S to the stay-at-home mother of three that brought us Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn and The Host. You are truly an inspiration for us mothers.

So without further adieu... Hope you enjoy my version for the cast of The Host...

Camilla Belle as Melanie Stryder

Jensen Ackles as Jared Howe

Josh Evans as Ian O'Shea

Garret Hedlund as Kyle O'Shea

Graham Phillips as Jamie Stryder

Ed Harris as Uncle Jeb

Hugh Laurie as Doc

Eva Longoria Parker as The Seeker

So there it is, fans of The Host. This is my dream cast, all in all, whoever ends up playing the roles of these characters, I'm sure will be great! This was just a fun project for me. Let me know what you think and how you see the movie being casted.

Here are Stephenie's picks from her 2009 interview with MTV.

MTV: You've said that when you write, you cast actors in the roles in your head. Would you like to see a "Host" movie? Who are your dream stars?
Meyer: I would. ... With "Twilight," I felt the actors needed to be up-and-coming artists that haven't been recognized yet. ... With "The Host," I think the actors could be really big names. That would be cool. I'd love to see Robert Redford put on a beard and be Jeb; he would be amazing. ... Matt Damon has some very Jared-esque qualities, and then [I'd love to see] Casey Affleck as Ian and Ben Affleck as Kyle. Imagine the interplay.
MTV: If you could invade anyone's body, à la "The Host," who would it be?
Meyer: I'd really like having a couple days of being a rock star, although I'd rather be a backup — like maybe the drummer for Muse. ... It would also be fun to be gorgeous, like be Charlize Theron, just for a couple of days.

I'm so excited to be working with Nick Weschler, and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz to bring The Host to a visual format. They've all been a dream to work with, so lovely and collaborative, and I feel like we're in a really good place to make a great movie together. And then to have Andrew Niccol writing and directing? Truly awesome. If you've never seen Gattaca, go watch it now. One of my favorite movies of all time. It's such a great example of character driven science fiction, which is ideal for The Host, no? I'm having an absolute blast imagining different dream casts, which I would post if people didn't take my silly blogs so seriously these days. I'm looking forward to seeing the cast lists you come up with in the fansite forums, and if any of them match mine.
So, very exciting. Yay Host!

  1. Yeah!!! I'd hadn't heard this yet. So Excited!

  2. Stopping by from SITS. That is exciting news!

  3. cool! had no idea but excited to see how it all develops!

    stopping by via SITS!

and girl.... you need to read the twilight series. :)

  4. I did not know this! I'm so excited!

  5. I totally disagree with Stephanie Meyer's thoughts on who would play the roles.... Robert Redford (HUGE fan)is way too old - Born Aug. 1936. The Affleck brothers are both too old also. Ben - Aug. 1972 and Casey is just three years younger. The O'Shea brothers are in their early twentys. I do however agree that the role of Jared needs to be Matt Damon-esque, but Damon is forty years old so he dfinitely would be the wrong choice.
But, Hey what do I know......

  6. I loved this book and will be interested to see how they manage to make a movie with so much going on the characters head!

  7. I am really excited about this movie! I just hope they don't mess it up for me like they did Twilight. But it looks like there's going to be more professional people involved in the process, so here's hoping! Amy, I really liked your picks. I think you picked better than Stephenie! :)

  8. I liked this one much better than the vampire books.
