Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

To My Mother, Janeth!

You are my mother and my friend,
Which is unusual.
Somehow our characters must blend:
Your wisdom and my will.

I turn, and you are there for me;
I speak, you understand.
I feel cared for, but also free;
You lead but don't command.

I'm fortunate that I was born
To someone just like you;
I love you, not just as my mom,
But for what you are and do.

For when I was a baby and you stayed home with me to love me and take care of me,
For when I was in school and you were there when I got home,
For teaching me memory verses, and prayers,
For calling the parents of that boy that beat me up in grade school,
For coming to all of my gymnastics meets and volleyball games and music recitals,
For driving me all over the place to play games, or go to someone's house,
For putting up with me when I was a horrible teenager that thought you were annoying,
For putting your foot down when I wanted to do something I shouldn't, even when I said you were unfair,
For loving me even when you had to watch me make mistake after mistake,
For somehow knowing exactly what to say, and what not to say when you found out I was going to be a mother at 18,
For helping me take care of my baby girl and teaching me how to be the mother I should be,
For not saying, "I told you so" even though you told me so,
For throwing the most awesome wedding I could imagine with two weeks notice,
For being an example of a Godly wife and mother,
For being the kind of Nana that anyone would want to have,
For coming to see me every possible chance you get,
For being the best friend I could ask for, and the person I know I can always count on....

For all that you have done for me, and for all that you are, thank you.  I love you more than words can say.

  1. I hope my mom doesn't see this. I will have to tell her that you're my boss and I have NO control here.

  2. Awww that was so sweet <3 Really well written, you're so lucky to have such a beautiful mother, as is she to an equally beautiful daughter. You all look lovely in the pictures, hope you have a great day! Happy Mothers Day!

  3. This brought tears to my eyes! What a lovely piece! You are fortunate, both of you to have such a reciprocal relationship. Makes me think of the one I had with my mother until she passed when I was 14 (many years ago). Continue to cherish this special bond!

  4. IThank you so much darling Daughter. I feel honored by your sweet words. All of those things have brought us to the relationship we have today and I wouldn't change that for anything. I also wouldn't want to go through it again! I love you exceedingly much and hope that you enjoy your Mother's Day!

  5. Amy~ Didn't mean to make you look bad! Happy Mother's Day! Love you!

    Brodie~ You know you're my favorite follower...this is why! Thanks for your sweet words (always) and for your support!

    Kelly~ Thanks so much for your comment! That was really sweet! I'm sorry you lost your mom at such a young age, but I'm glad that you got to have a wonderful relationship with her while she was here.

    Mom/Janeth~I thought about not sharing on Facebook to see if you follow me everyday, but since it's mother's day, I decided not to test you...haha!!! I love you very much. Wish we lived closer together! You're the best mom/friend I could ever ask for!

  6. You know I'm joking. My mom isn't computer savvy enough to find our blog anyway. She said that one time she tried, it took her an hour to become a follower... she gave up.
    There are so many questions I have about that whole scenario, I'm not even going to ask.
