Jinx by Meg Cabot: Review By Kit

JinxJinx By: Meg cabot

It's not easy being Jinx.
Jean Honeychurch hates her boring name (not Jean Marie, or Jeanette, just . . . Jean). What's worse? Her all-too-appropriate nickname, Jinx. Misfortune seems to follow her everywhere she goes—even to New York City, where Jinx has moved to get away from the huge mess she caused in her small hometown. Her aunt and uncle welcome her to their Manhattan town house, but her beautiful cousin Tory isn't so thrilled. . . .
In fact, Tory is hiding a dangerous secret—one that could put them all in danger. Soon Jinx realizes it isn't just bad luck she's been running from . . . and that the curse she has lived under since the day she was born may be the only thing that can save her life.

I enjoyed reading Jinx.  It was really interesting and held my attention.  I also have a weakness for "stand alone books" (aka books that I don't have to wait for the sequal) It was very unique, and not nearly as predictable as most YA chick lit books.  Also, it was well written (let's face it, Meg Cabot is an amazing writer) but I didn't like it as much as I did the Airhead books. I think that her books get better each time so maybe going backwards (from the last books she wrote to this one) wasn't a very good idea.  I just had REALLY high expectations after the Airhead series and wanted too much out of it.  Now I feel bad.  It was NOT a bad book I DID enjoy it and it only took me a day to read, it just wasn't her BEST book. I would put it on my summer reading list and reccomend it, but it's not a "Must Read Right Now" book.

Parents need to know: There was some cussing, some drinking, drugs, and some kissing, and a small amount of sexual innuendo.  For more details, go to Jinx on Parental Book Reviews.

  1. I absolutely love Meg Cabot! This is one of her few books that I haven't read, but I definitely want to. Good review :)
