For those who'd rather read...Review: Tell Me a Secret by Holly Cupala

Tell Me a SecretIt's tough living in the shadow of a dead girl. . . .

In the five years since her bad-girl sister Xanda's death, Miranda Mathison has wondered about the secret her sister took to the grave, and what really happened the night she died. Now, just as Miranda is on the cusp of her dreams—a best friend to unlock her sister's world, a ticket to art school, and a boyfriend to fly her away from it all—Miranda has a secret all her own.

When two lines on a pregnancy test confirm her worst fears, Miranda is stripped of her former life. She must make a choice with tremendous consequences and finally face her sister's demons and her own.

In this powerful debut novel, stunning new talent Holly Cupala illuminates the dark struggle of a girl who must let go of her past to find a way into her own future.

I received this book as part of an ARC tour done by Other Shelf Tours.  It is an uncorrected copy and may change slightly before its final publication.

I really loved this book!

Tell Me A Secret hit really close to home for me.  I was 18 when I got pregnant, and it was one of the hardest and most terrifying times in my life.  It's funny, but I don't think about it that much anymore....but reading this book brought back so many emotions.  My experience was not like Miranda's, because my family was wonderful and helped me through everything, but a lot of the feelings were the same.  And it really gave me an appreciation of what my life could've looked like if things had just been a little different.  I can't even imagine how hard and how lonely it would have been going through the ups and downs of having a baby, especially one you didn't plan on, and one you're not sure you have the ability to properly take care of.  Reading this part of Miranda's life, broke my heart.  But it's also a story of hope and redemption.

I had so many emotions go through me while reading this!  I wanted to scream, and cry, and hit something......and then go hold a baby.  This is Holly Cupala's debut novel and I thought it was amazingly done.

Tell Me a Secret will be released June 22!

Parents should know:  Although considering the subject of this book, I thought it was pretty tame and well done, there is a moderate amount of language, and there's some talk of pregnancy and sex, as well as parties and drinking.  For more details go to Tell Me a Secret on Parental Book Reviews.
