Series: Prequel to Graceling
Beautiful creatures called monsters live in the Dells. Monsters have the shape of normal animals: mountain lions, dragonflies, horses, fish. But the hair or scales or feathers of monsters are gorgeously colored-- fuchsia, turquoise, sparkly bronze, iridescent green-- and their minds have the power to control the minds of humans.
Seventeen-year-old Fire is the last remaining human-shaped monster in the Dells. Gorgeously monstrous in body and mind but with a human appreciation of right and wrong, she is hated and mistrusted by just about everyone, and this book is her story.

While looking at new releases this morning, I came across the new Paperback cover for FIRE by Kristin Cashore, and I just had to post it!  I love it!!  And since FIRE and GRACELING are two of my all-time favorite books, I thought I'd tell you to go buy these books if you haven't yet.  They are two of the very, VERY few books that I have read more than once.  In fact, I also bought the audiobooks for my dad for Christmas.  I loved them that much.  I have to say I'd definitely recommend them for the older YA crowd because the writing is more mature and the characters act more adult than teen.  But, if you like epic stories of adventure and fighting and love and bizarre powers, you will love these books.

Happy Reading!
