The Vespertine Mini-Review

Holy Freak!  I loved this book so much!  I just had to tell you!

It’s the summer of 1889, and Amelia van den Broek is new to Baltimore and eager to take in all the pleasures the city has to offer. But her gaiety is interrupted by disturbing, dreamlike visions she has only at sunset—visions that offer glimpses of the future. Soon, friends and strangers alike call on Amelia to hear her prophecies. However, a forbidden romance with Nathaniel, an artist, threatens the new life Amelia is building in Baltimore. This enigmatic young man is keeping secrets of his own—still, Amelia finds herself irrepressibly drawn to him.

When one of her darkest visions comes to pass, Amelia’s world is thrown into chaos. And those around her begin to wonder if she’s not the seer of dark portents, but the cause.

I just wanted to give a quick shout-out to Saundra Mitchell and The Vespertine!  If you are in any way a fan of period fiction, you will love this book!  Saundra's writing is absolutely beautiful!  I was completely sucked into this story.  I loved it!  It reads like a Jane Austen classic, without the difficult wording.  And the romantic tension....wowza!  I don't know, for me, when two people are kept apart, and even the slightest touch can be earth (or life) shattering, it just makes it all the more intense and fantastic to read!

The setting was gorgeous, the characters were multi-dimensional and entertaining, and the story was fantastically mysterious!  I want more!

The Vespertine releases March 7, and will definitely make my top reads of 2011, I'll tell you that right now!  Bloggers, add this to your TBR pile!  Readers, you can pre-order The Vespertine now!  And if you order early, it's a lot cheaper!  SCORE!  My full review will post closer to the release date!

love, love, love
