Alex Pettyfer: The Mortal Instruments or The Last Apprentice?

According to Vulture, it looks like The Mortal Instruments movie has some competition, and it may not be winning.
Talks between Screen Gems and reps for Alex Pettyfer have reached an impasse, and insiders familiar with the situation say the young Brit won’t be starring in the studio’s adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s best-selling young-adult books, The Mortal Instruments, after all. What happened? Insiders tell Vulture that Pettyfer has been offered the lead role in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s best-selling YA series The Last Apprentice(known to U.K. readers as The Wardstone Chronicles), about a teenage boy training to be an exorcist in the 1700s. The project is heating up fast, our spies say, with Oscar nominees Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Lawrence possibly playing roles as well; Bridges is being offered the part of the exorcist to whom Pettyfer would be apprenticed, and Lawrence that of a suspected witch. -Vulture

Sad day, people!!  I still have my fingers crossed that he'll say yes to TMI, but Vulture seems pretty sure that he will pass.  Apparently he really loved reading The Last Apprentice as a young teen, and of course, would like to work with the talent lined up for TLA movie.  I haven't read any of The Last Apprentice yet, but as my son gets older, I'm sure I will be adding it to the list.  Especially if this movie comes out!

What's so funny about all of this, is that no one has actually seen if Alex is a good actor (as an adult).  At least not in any major motion pictures.  I think it will be hilarious if, after signing on to all these movies, he's the worst actor ever....even worse that Robert Pattinson (MM*)!  Haha, just kidding Twilight people, you know I love me some Twilight.  Actually, for some reason, he just seems like he'll be good at it.

So, what do you think?  Should he pick JACE....or Apprentice boy?  Stop laughing at me, people.

*(Mundie Moms, I think I'm going to start putting MM in my posts whenever there's an inside joke for you)

  1. he was in "Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker" which i think was a pretty big kids movie a few years back (didnt see it) - i saw him in "Wild Child" with Emma Roberts. He was pretty good in that, but yeah, it'll be interesting to see what he does in Beastly and I am Number Four. But who knows, maybe for TMI they'll find some unknown that's AMAZING and we'll like him better than Alex!

  3. Okay, let me try posting that again, but with better grammar. lol

ROTFL Oh I got it! One of the many reasons why we love you is because we totally get each other's inside jokes. :P

  4. I am actually kind of happy he is taking his time in deciding, so we can see his performance in I am Number 4 & see if he's truly worthy of being Jace! LOL

  5. I've been really excited about Alex playing Jace, but now... I don't know anymore. It's too much fuss about him. And we still have to watch Beastly and I am number 4. I think I'd prefer a new never-heard-of-before-but-fantastic-actor for Jace - I need a new crush! (Ohh... who am I kidding here?) LOL

  7. Guys, it was announced a casting call for Jace some days now. So it's almost pretty sure they will be no Alex.

You can read about the casting call here: http://www.movieweb.com/news/the-mortal-instruments-issues-casting-call-for-jace-wayland

  8. Looking at this guy, I think he's way too old to play the lead on Last Apprentice. I'd prefer him as Jace.

  9. I've never read The Mortal Instruments, but I hope he picks that role. He is way to old to be playing Thomas Ward (The "Apprentice Guy")and I wouldn't be very happy if they made it like Percy Jackson, in which the twelve-year-old characters were played by 16-year-olds.

  10. If there's no Alex in the role I'd prefer a really good actor to someone exactly the same as Jace (no more Pattinsons ruinning books on my way, please!).
