I'm really excited to have Kimberly Derting, author of The Body Finder and Desires of the Dead on the blog today! These are some of my favorite books, they are seriously awesome! I ADORE the covers, and Kimberly was nice enough to talk with us about them. Check it out:
Before I had my cover, I would have nightmares about the cover my publisher would design for me. I’ve heard too many horror stories other authors and I’ve seen some pretty terrible covers. I’d love to say that I don’t judge a book by its cover, but I’d be lying. I totally do!
And, honestly, it’s not like authors have that much say in their covers. Especially not debut authors like I was. Needless to say, I had a bad case of Cover Anxiety. So when I received the email that there was a cover, my stomach clenched and my heart probably stopped beating for a moment or two. Thankfully, when I opened the file, I fell in love! And started breathing again. It. Was. Beautiful!!!!
And there was much celebrating in the Derting household! I was ridiculously giddy. I even printed it out and “tried it on” other books, so I could imagine what MY book would look like when it was finally on shelves. (Yes, I’m that dorky!) It wasn’t until later that I learned that the blue “flower” isn’t actually a flower at all, but rather a 3-foot fabric creation crafted by one of the guys who does the wings for the Victoria’s Secret angels. Umm…how cool is that?!?!?!
So, yeah, I would definitely say that I LOVE my covers, both of them! And I can only imagine where the covers will go from here…
Thanks so much, Kimberly!
If you haven't read The Body Finder
Review of The Body Finder
Review of Desires of the Dead
That would have to be really scary giving creative control over to someone else for such a huge part of your book. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteShe does have super beautiful covers though :)
Thanks for the cool post!
Is it not a flower? How interesting! I can only imagine how disappointing it must be to have an ugly cover designed for your "baby"! She was lucky, hers are great!
ReplyDeleteI love this covers, they're kinda simple but still beautiful!
ReplyDeleteand what's inside of it, is way awesome.
