Read my review for Beastly by Alex Finn

Love is never ugly but this movie was!!!!!

I don't even know where to begin. The acting, the cheesy lines, everything was a mess. I could not help but laugh periodically during Beastly. I felt very little for the characters. To me this was not a love story. It was just too cheesy. It really felt like a made for T.V. movie. Venessa Hudgens said "rad" a couple of times and Alex said "shoot me now", that is just some of the stupid lines. My younger children behave that way, the lines just seemed silly and overacted. There was zero passion and lack of luster in Beastly. I thought the book was O.K.. After seeing the movie, the book is pretty darn good. I understood what was going on in the movie, although a lot was changed. If you did not read the book, I can see why you would think the movie was choppy. All around poorly acted, poorly directed, poorly written and the special effects where pathetic.

I would say save your money and wait for another love story. However, all is not lost on Alex Pettyfer. Yes, he was pretty horrible in Beastly, but he was great in I Am Number Four (read Andye's movie review)!

  1. Oh noes!!! I was so looking forward to this movie. Bummer, man.

  2. I couldn't believe Vanessa Hudgens said, "Rad!" in the movie... nobody says that anymore. Dialogue could have used a lot of work. I rolled my eyes a lot at the many cheesy moments but sigh, I still think Alex Pettyfer did okay. He could only do so much given what he had to work with, right?

Neil Patrick Harris was funny though. Every scene with him was fun to watch! ("Wazzzz upppp?" lol)

Overall, movie was okay the movie and I still sort of enjoyed it... good enough to pass the time but definitely not an award-winner or anything. :)

  3. @Midnight Bloom Yeah, the "Wazzzuppp" part was funny. If I had to pick a favorite character it would be Zola. She didn't have a very big part but, I like her.

I think I had put some expectations on Beastly, because I just saw I Am Number Four, and loved it!

I think maybe I should have seen the new Matt Damon movie instead :)

  4. I definitely agree with you. I expected so much more than what I saw. I did like Neil Patrick Harris played a really good character I though and he was really funny too.

I never really got what all the fuss about Alex P being Jace in TMI, but i can honestly say that- look wise- he'd be the perfect fit....acting wise, I'm not so sure. I haven't seen I Am Number Four yet, but I heard that I did do really we'll just have to see how that goes...if he does get the roll.

  5. I liked Beastly but I haven't read the book. Neil Patrick Harris was good and the golf and "whassup" were a scream. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite tales. Loved the Disney version (saw it 4 times the first week it was out.) Also have to admit I liked Mary-Kate Olsen as Kendra. Loved her whole look. Would really like to know what she does to Kyle's father.

  6. Got it... should save my money...
But I must see Alex!!!! =P

  7. awww this makes me sad, I've been wanting to see this, and I'm going to read the book soon too

  8. @Livia You only see the cutie Alex for about fifteen minutes of the movie :(

  9. Really??? I wanted to see this one. We ended up taking the kids to Rango. It was aweful.

  10. I didn't like it either. It was just SOOO cheesy! And I was looking forward to seeing Alex, but honestly he wasn't very good in this one, he just seemed awkward. And, he was ugly most of the movie, and when he was cute, he was a jerk......
It was just, bad. It had some cute moments, and yes Neil Patrick Harris was funny! And I liked Mary-Kate's character. She was pretty cool. But the movie over all....not worth the ticket! It's a good thing I Am Number Four came out first, or else I wouldn't have bothered seeing it. It was really good, tho!

  11. I had a feeling that, that would happen. The book was, like you said Okay, it wasn't fantastic, but it was cute.
By the way you guys talk about it, it sounds as corny as High School Musical. I'll save my money and wait until it comes out on DVD and get it at the library, thanks for the heads up!
I'll be sure to watch I Am Number Four instead :)

  12. Movie out of my list! Not a hard thing to do since I don't like Vanessa Hudgens at all!

  13. Say it isn't so! I've been looking forward to this movie forever. *sob*

  14. I actually thought this looked like a really cool movie. It's kind of sad that's it not. I am looking forward to seeing I am Number Four though...

  15. I saw this last night and (at the risk of sounding like a dirty old lady) was only not outraged at he price of my ticket because Alex took his shirt off a few times (man that kid is pretty). I didn't think the acting was that horrible, but the writing was pretty bad, special effects stank, and there was zero chemistry between A and V. Also, they skipped over the whole "they fall in love" part. NPH was the highlight of the movie and he only had a handful of scenes, which is kind of sad.

  16. I feared as much. I try to steer clear of anything featuring Vanessa Hudgens. Even if it also features one of the Olsen twins as a whacked out fairy LOL
