My favorite genre is Dystopian too! :D So many great reads out there in that genre that it's almost all I ever read now. Hunger Games is one of my favorites, along with Delirium, Birthmarked, The Line, and Across the Universe (which I got nearly all of my friends hooked on!)
ReplyDeleteGO DYSTOPIA! :D

I am a big Dystopian fan too. There is just so many good reads to choose from.
ReplyDeletethegirlonfire27 at gmail dot com
I love dystopians, too, but have recently started reading a lot of contemporary YA books. Like right now I'm reading Between Here and Forever by Elizabeth Scott. I also always like the paranormal, science fiction, or fantasy genres.

While I also love dystopian/post-apocalyptic fiction I also am a fan of regional lit. I'm from WV but I enjoy reading books set anywhere in Appalachia. Some of my favorites are: Back Roads by Tawni O'Dell, Screaming With the Cannibals by Lee Maynard, Unquiet Earth by Denise Giardina and Look Homeward Angel by Thomas Wolfe.
ReplyDeletewaitmantwillie at hotmail dot com
I've become really fond of time travel books, but not like the epic sci-fi kind. More like in Timeless, and Always A Witch. I like the contrast different time periods make. I also kind of like dystopias as well for that reason.
ReplyDeletehandley(dot)skye(at)hotmail(dot)com.
I'm really loving Dystopian. Matched and the HG all the way!
ReplyDeleteI found myself to be drawn to Dystopian books lately too... I think it's because after reading one good Dystopian, I would look up other similar books too and keep it up until I feel like I need to read something else entirely different.
ReplyDeletechibipooh(at)gmail(dot)com
I seem to reading more dystopian too since the Hunger Games. I have read wither, Matched, Delirium,Birthmarked to name a few. The best one so far has been Enclave
ReplyDeleteaprilmom00 at gmail dot com
I've also been reading more dystopian. I just like reading about worlds that don't exist! :)
ReplyDeletepinkdaddysgirl[at]msn[dot]com
Well, you read my mind. I love dystopians. I had to re read Inside Out before I could get into Outside In. It's really fun. I also adore periods. The one I recently read that I really enjoyed was Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran.

I'm a HUGE fan of Dystopians and Historical Fiction, however, I've recently come to realize that I absolutely LOVE books with "Magical Surrealism" or books with "Surreal Magic Realism" - books that combine the ordinary, with the not-quite-ordinary, but not quite paranormal.
ReplyDeleteFor example, "The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake", which combines a dysfunctional family drama with a young girl's bizarre ability to TASTE emotions. And "Like Water for Chocolate" in which Tita can pour her emotions into the food she makes, causing the person consuming it to feel accordingly. "The Mistress of Spices" where the spices speak to Tilo, who prescribes them to people according to the sage advice that the spices give her. And my favorite, "The Time Traveler's Wife" in which a man can travel forwards and backwards through the parallel universes of his life, and is how he acquires the love of his life.
What I love about these novels is that they are really about every day, realistic issues such as family drama, love, joy, sadness, suffering (etc), and include real people - but with a hint of magic, the entire story takes a whole new facet which is both new and riveting to experience.
Thank you so much for hosting this amazing giveaway every week! :)

ReplyDeleteI have found recently that alot of the books I have been drawn to are books that have an element of sci fi. I love sci-fi movies but have never read any books with sci-fi before. I really enjoying I am number 4 and am just going to read Being.

Faeries with The Iron Fey & Wicked Lovely series & maybe Zombies because of The Forest of Hands and Teeth. Amy @ bookgoonie at yahoo
ReplyDeleteI love loving dystopian fiction right now! My faves so far is XVI and Darkness Becomes Her...oh, and maybe Ship Breaker....
ReplyDeletestephaniecwilkes (at) gmail (dot) com
It really depends on my mood but lately it has been a lot of realistic fiction. As much as I love paranormal and other genres I just needed a break.
ReplyDeleteLisa, bell198@aol.com
A genre I've been really drawn to lately is, Dystopian and Paranormal romance!! I just can't get enough of these kinds of books! The different time periods, the supernatural powers, it's all so...EXCITING!

I like to read mystery and I don't know what catagory it belongs under, I really enjoy a good who done it.

After reading The Hunger Games, I've fallen in love with dystopian too. My favorites are The Hunger Games, Unwind, The Knife of Never Letting Go, and Across the Universe.
ReplyDeleteI have also discovered that I love dystopian books. I used the word "dystopian" around my family and friends and they look at me as though I'm gone quite mad.
ReplyDeleteAmy // artsyrockerchick at aim dot com
I m drawn more to romance books right now......specially Sarah Dessen's books......

My favourite genre would have to be paranormal romance. Shapeshifters have a soft spot in my heart. I haven't gotten a chance to call dystopian one of my fave because i haven't read any novel but its one of the first in my to-read list.
ReplyDeletesananoor_94@hotmail.com
I love dystopian lit because I'm excited to learn about new, extreme worlds.
ReplyDeleteI've recently come to love historical fiction. I always had a thing for it, but now realize that it's my genre of choice!
ReplyDeleteDystopian books are definitely some of my favs! I loved Wither, Matched, The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, and I'm still trying to get a hold of Delirium. I'm also really into fantasy/sci fi books like Darkness Becomes Her, The Bartimaeus Series, Witch and Wizard series, Leviathon, Inheritance Cycle, and others like those.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot of fairy books recently. I love fairies! Anything fantasy I love. Dystopian is great, too! I recently read Matched, Across the Universe, and Delirium is on my TBR!
ReplyDeleteiLiveiLaughiLoveBooks@gmail.com
Im really liking the contemporary and dystopian lately. I think Dystopian started with Hunger Games before then I didn't enjoy them at all.
ReplyDeleteIn my popular fiction class we did a unit on fantasy and I find myself really getting into them now. I'm been picking up a lot lately and so far I've really liked Tamora Pierce's Tortall books, Dawn Cook's Truth series and Christopher Paolini's Eragon books.
ReplyDeletefaefever25@hotmail.com
I have always been a huge dystopian fan. It all started with The Giver by Lois Lowry...amazeballs! My fave's now are Matched, AtheU, and I have got to get to Delirium. Thanks!```
ReplyDeleteDystopia is my all time favorite genre :) My entire blog is dedicated to it! It's nice to see how influential this new genre is becoming xD

I've recently discovered an interest in historical novels set in Asia, particularly in Japan and Korea. I love reading about those two cultures.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm also newly interested in urban fantasy and books about fallen angels.

I love reading fantasy books. But love others too.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely loving the Dystopian books lately. : )

Thanks to Anna and the French Kiss, I've recently fallen in love with both sweet romances and realistic fiction in the young adult genre.
ReplyDeleteerikadlugo(at) yahooDOTcom
l was always unsure with Dystopians but now l have realised l loved it. Especially after Delirium!!!
ReplyDeletebooksforcompany @ gmail.com
I love books about other worlds (fantasy, I guess?), they could be anywhere, in any time. Because there are different places and people, there are different rules and different problems. My favorites are Graceling and Poison Study! They provide the greatest escape from everyday life.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a big fan of paranormal and urban fantasies, like Nightshade, Wicked Lovely; they take place in our time but not just in our world.
I loved the Hunger Games and Forest of Hands and Teeth, I haven't read many other Dystopians, but I really want to read Matched and Delirium!
shayla115@gmail.com
I have no idea :S
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I love books of all genres. I love dystopian books, but I'm also reading a lot of books right now that would just go under Fantasy and Paranormal Romance (I think). To name a few; Graceling and Fire by Kristin Cashore, Paranormalcy by Kiersten White and Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong.
My fav period books are almost always set in the 20s. I love BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS and VIXEN! OMG SO GOOD!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteAs far as dystopian, I gotta say I'm still a HUNGER GAMES and MAZE RUNNER girl.
I looovvvveee Fairy-tale retellings, but I'm not sure whether I would call that fantasy, because I don't really like fantasy anymore.... :) I adore fairytales, though....3 days until "Entwined" comes out-Eeee!
ReplyDeleteI, too, am a big fan of Dytopians as well. My favs are "The Giver" (hehe-it started it all!) and Hunger Games!!! I just died from mockingjay though, that made me really bitter... :P
I've been really drawn to Dystopian's lately too. Hunger Games, Matched were also ones that I loved, and Across the Universe too. I haven't read Wither or Delirium yet, but I want to sooooo bad! :D I've totally gotten hooked on YA Contemporary too, Anna and the French Kiss, Perfect You, and Along for the Ride are a few of my favourites! :D And another genre I've really fallen in love with are paranormal stories focusing on faries/faeries/fey, The Iron Fey, The Replacement and The Modern Faerie Tale Books are some of the ones I've loved :D
ReplyDeleteI also just read Hunger and Rage by Jackie Morse Kessler and fell totally in love with them! I guess I'd put that in just Paranormal, which I've been totally hooked on for a while now haha, either way they were amazing :D
Great question :)

With so much to read and since I like most genres, I don't seem to have one that I read most often. The closest I've gotten to reading most often lately is paranormal romance. That's only because I have a lot of them in my TBR piles and am doing on-line reading challenges for the year and they fit the categories of the month.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge Dystopia fan too. I loved The Hunger Games, Delirium, Birthmarked, Across the Universe, and The Chaos Walking trilogy. I'm also drawn into YA contemporary novels including Sarah Dessen, Jenny Han, Jandy Nelson and Melina Marchetta's works.
ReplyDeletesauvadeavelle@yahoo.com
I adore dystopia and period fiction, as well!
ReplyDeleteLately though I have been on a really contemporary kick. I've never been a really big fan of it, but right now I cannot get enough!
fireflybookloft@gmail.com
My favorite is still paranormal romance...although I do love a great romantic suspense here and there.
ReplyDeleteI hope to try a dystopian here soon!
Thanks! mmafsmith@gmail.com
Ever since I read The Hunger games I've been hooked on dystopians, too. Pretty much every one I've read so far I have really liked. One of my recent favorites is Delirium. There are so many more I want to read, though. I'm looking forward to starting the Chaos Walking trilogy soon.
ReplyDeleteI, too, have been drawn to Dystopian books lately. My favourites, so far, are The Giver and The Road.
ReplyDeletewandanamgreb(at)gmail(dot)com
I am a big Dystopian fan too. It all started with Forest of Hands and Teeth and it's been full speed ahead since then!
ReplyDeletelesly7ch(at)yahoo(dot)com
I really can't pin point one favourite genre but lately I've been reading alot of Dystopian so I guess it's like the Dystopian Era right now! Some recent favourites include Delirium and Across the Universe but all time favourite would be Hunger Games!

ReplyDeletemisadevilgirl at seznam dot cz
Dystopia for sure! But I am feeling myself drawn to some of the great looking historical fiction or period fiction I see coming out. I'm excited to see them!
ReplyDeleteI am always drawn to historical fiction, it's my favorite (especially anything Jane Austen-related), but lately, I've been reading a lot of YA paranormal (which tends to be better than adult paranormal, I've found).
ReplyDeleteMargay1122ATaolDOTcom
I really like dystopians too, as well as Paranormal (YA), Science Fiction (YA)... What everyone's reading, mostly! Haha
ReplyDeleteI also found myself a new love in Dystopian. After reading Matched :)
ReplyDeleteline_boegh@hotmail.com
I'm with you here: I'm in love with Dystopians! I loved The Hunger Games and Matched and still have some on my TBR! :)

ReplyDeleteNormally I didn't care much about historical romances and time-travelling, but I found myself very much in love with Jack knife and The Sterkarm series. I recently discovered Gayle Callen (historical romance), and also loved her style. I like some dystopian, too.

I've also really been into Dystopians lately. There are just so many great ones out right now. It's all I ever want to read now!
ReplyDeleteI have genre ADD. I have a hard time reading multiple books of the same genre in a row. Buuut, I've been reading a lot of action packed thrillers lately! I think it's about time for a change though.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely dystopian for me too. I can't get enough of them lately!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!

I never thought I would be in love YA fantasy/Romance but after being recommend to read sum I fell so in love that I'm working on my own Novel.
ReplyDeleteI have been reading A LOT of Dystopian and Post-Apocalyptic lately. There have been so many released in the past year and i'm really taking advantage of that!
ReplyDeleteI also have a weakness Romantic Comedies and Mysteries.. among other things.
I hope I'm not too late for this week.
night_owl94(at)yahoo(dot)com
I think a good dystopian thriller takes you to a new place, but allows you to see your own world in the reflection.
ReplyDeleteWild Child Publishing just released Against Nature by John Nelson, a dystopian thriller about a global pandemic. The disease is 100% fatal and there is no cure. One scientist believes it's caused by an extraterrestrial dust mite brought back to earth by a shuttle astronaut. The book examines our current world (and events of the past 10 years) and super imposes them on this new crisis to create a dystopian world. It's not post-apocalyptic like Hunger Games. but going from now into the apocalyptic world.
