My Thoughts on The Mortal Instruments Series by Amy

I had never really planned on reading The Mortal Instrumentsseries just because Andye, Kit and Abigaile had already read them. Abigaile has been begging me for a year to read The Mortal Instruments, but due to a certain little tid bit (I'd tell you but then I'd have to, well, you know what comes next) that really grossed me out by the books, I always turned her down. One afternoon while Andye and I were having lunch, she talked me into it (there must have been something in the salsa), and I agreed very quickly.

WOW! What a ride it was. I read all three books in about six days. I know what you're thinking... yes, they all are around 500 pgs. each. They consumed me, well Jace consumed me :) I loved, loved, loved his smart aleck (obnoxiously conceited and self-assertive person with pretensions to smartness or cleverness- Webster) character. There are so many lines that I am thinking of right now that are making me smile. He was so funny, cocky, sexy, cocky, compassionate, cocky, caring, cocky and protective. I could just keep going about Jace, he was absolutely my favorite character. Jace was also shoved to the very top of "My Favorite Male Fictional Characters", there's some pretty tough competition on that list. Okay, on to the rest of the characters... I liked Clary, I had to remind myself that she was only fifteen in City of Bones. She would be a little immature and whiny at times, but again... fifteen. She grows up over the course of the three books and it was nice seeing her become more mature about her decisions. Her love for Simon, her best friend, is very cool. She never gave up on him and I liked that she was so loyal to whom she loved. Simon was so funny, he was almost like a sidekick for the series. He was into everything, always needing Jace's help and they didn't quite get along. Their relationship really added some complexity to the books. Then of course there's Magnus Bane, Alec and Isabelle. Those six characters are pretty much the core group of this series. Each character has such a deep ownership of the storyline. It's amazing how well written this series is. Cassandra Clare is a genius. I will be starting Clockwork Angel soon and then of course City of Fallen Angels.

If you haven't read this series, you are missin out. It has to go to the top of your to-be-read list. The Mortal Instruments has a little of everything including; Shadowhunters, demons, vampires, warlocks, angels, werewolves (lyconthropes), faeries, and countless others. So you can see that these books sound very interesting.

This is why I love Andye (if only for this reason), after all the beatings I take from her... at the end of the day... she encouraged me to read The Mortal Instrument series and for that... she has my eternal devotion.
