Actress Picked for Stephenie Meyer's THE HOST

I have to say I'm really excited about this movie.  I know!!  I'm stupid!!  They always screw them up, but I can't help it!  I love, love, love this book, and just can't WAIT to see it made into a movie.  I'm hoping they've all learned their lesson and they will actually put some money into this, and make it right.

SO ANYWAY!!  They have an actress for Melanie/Wanderer! According to Deadline.com, Saoirse Ronan will be taking the lead role.  She has starred in The Lovely Bones, City of Ember and Atonement and also, most recently Hanna, which I'm DYING to go see....if only someone would go with me (hint, hint, Amy).

Deadline.com
Meyer's book has an enormous fan base, and the author had long resisted offers to sell it. She finally made a deal two years ago with producers Nick Wechsler and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz, who'd done the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road together. They deliberately developed the script outside the studio system, and invited the author to be very hands on in the adaptation. Meyer was involved down to choosing Niccol because she was such a fan of his films Gattaca and his script for The Truman Show. Niccol wrote the script to direct, but left to direct Now with Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy. Nanny McPhee Returns director Susanna White was briefly attached, but that isn't happening. Niccol, now done with his film, is once again in the mix as possible helmer. Inferno's Marc Butan, Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson are exec producing and Roger Schwartz is co-producer. The film's being funded by the producers and Inferno.

There's also a rumor that she's going to be playing in The Hobbit.  I guess we'll see!

You know, I think she might be really good for this role because she'll have to play two different types of people in one.  Melanie is a kick-butt female character, and Wanderer is more timid and sweet.  I think she can play both of these roles.  In Hanna she's totally kick-butt, but she looks so sweet!  What do you think?

The Host is one of my FAVORITE books ever, so I'm very excited!  Please, people, make this a good one!!  And please cast someone amazing for Jared....PLEASE!!

  1. I saw Hanna and it wasn't that great, but that is just my opinion. I can't wait until the next two books in the Host series come out in 2012 I believe.

  3. I havent read any books of the Host series (but I'm have to now, since it's coming out in theaters). But I have seen the movie Hanna, at first reading reviews and watching previews I didn't really like it. But when my friend finally begged me to go see it, I loved it!
    Talk about action packed!:D

  5. I'm so excited about this movie too! I actually liked The Host more than Twilight and I'm super excited for the movie and the next books, but they're coming 2012. :( I'm not sure about Saoirse Ronan, I'm sorry but I just do not see her as either Melanie or Wanderer. She's just not at all what I pictured at all. But maybe that's just me, I also haven't seen any movies with her and I wanted to see Hana so now I'll have to go soon!

I absolutley love both Jared and Ian and if they cast them wrong I will be so mad! Please pick someone amazing for them both!!!

  7. I'm not sure about her playing Melanie. I guess I had someone different in my mind, but we all probably did when we originally read it, so I would have to see how she performs the role before I can make a judgement, seeing as I haven't watched anything else with her.

Could be interesting, could be horrid, we shall see! I'm excited though :)

  12. I am so sad, even if it's irrational. Ronan is who I picked as my MC... you know, if it ever gets published AND turned into a movie... sad face.

  13. What do you think of the casting for The Hunger Games? I thought the girl from True Grit should've been Katniss.

By the way, as soon as I read Twilight, I thought they had miscast the role of Edward. Yeah, I like Robert Pattinson, but more as Cedric in Harry Potter.

  14. Although I'm very excited about the movie, I'm a little disappointed by this casting. I can't see her in this part even a little. Hopefully, she will prove me wrong, as I LOVE this book so much. I can't wait to see the castings for Liam and Jared!

  15. Saoirse is one of my favorite actresses! She absolutely wonderful. Even though I'm not a fan of Meyer's books, I know it'll do a lot of good for Saoirse's reputation as an actress. Hopefully, this'll get her the publicity she deserves. :p

  21. I love this casting!!! Such a good choice! THE HOST is one of my favorite books of all-time. I've read it like a million times! I'm so excited that they're legitimately making this into a movie. Like you, I'll be anxiously awaiting news to the casting of Jared and Ian. While I loved Jared, it was Ian who had a special little place in my heart. They had better not choose somebody stupid for him. ;)

  23. I agree, I can't help but be thrilled for the movie!

I wonder who they'll choose for post-death Wanderer, when she gets her own body?

  24. Lyndsy Fonseca "Melanie/Wanderer Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth for the O’Shea brothers I feel we should fit in Ian Somerhalder, Craig Horner, and Kellan Lutz and I know he is a little older than once desired but Sam Ellott is so right for the role....

just food for thought or at least good dreams....
