My Dad's Favorite MG/YA Books

My dad doesn't read a lot of books, but there have been a few that he's enjoyed, and you might be surprised to know that they're almost all MG/YA.  I thought, since it is Father's Day, I'd share some books my dad has enjoyed.  P.S.  He mostly listens to audiobooks, how fitting, since it's audiobook month!!

The Hunger GamesCatching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, Book 3)

My dad really liked these books, though he did think they were too political.  Oddly enough, his favorite of these books was my least favorite, Mockingjay.  I seriously thought about disowning him after that statement, but I guess he's allowed to have an opinion.

I was so excited to share Katsa with my dad!  He listened to this one as well, and liked it a lot.  I'm not sure if he loved it as much as I did, but he said it was good!  Now I need to get him Fire!

I haven't gotten to talk to him much about this one, but he's almost finished with it and he said he really liked it.  The reader for this audiobook is AMAZING, and the story is fantastic.  I can't wait until he finishes it so I can give him Behemoth!  Then the third, Goliath comes out in Sept.

Twilight (Twilight Series Book #1)(Hardcover)New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2)Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3)Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)

Ok, you are NOT allowed to laugh at my dad!  I will hurt you.  Yes, he loved the Twilight Saga.  He listened to all of these books, and they have continued to be one of his favorites.  Maybe he's a vampire in disguise!!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: 10th Anniversary Edition (Harry Potter)Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2)Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4)

Harry Potter And The Order Of The PhoenixHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)

Really, how can you even be surprised!  These are his all-time favorite books.  He has read them several times, and has listened to them countless times on audio as well.  I think he would agree that the reader (Jim Dale) is without a doubt the best audiobook reader ever.

Divergent (Divergent Trilogy) Blood Red Road (Dustlands)

Tomorrow I'm leaving to go see my parents and spend a couple of weeks with them, I'm planning on taking Divergent by Veronica Roth and Blood Red Road by Moira Young for my dad to listen to next.  I think he'll really like both of these books!  I'm excited to see what he thinks!

So, now that you know my dad's favorites, what about yours?  Does your dad read?  What are his favorite books?

Happy Father's Day, Dad!!

  1. That's interesting! My dad likes Twilight Saga and Harry Potter too, but he doesn't read them just watch the movies :P

  2. Same Here, My dad's not a reader though my Mum did read the Twilight Saga but not Harry Potter. Though they will both watch the movies :)

  3. Your dad and I have a lot in common.

  4. My dad hasn't read any of these books, but my mom did love the Harry Potter series.

  5. I love that his favorite is Harry Potter! My dad doesn't read much, but when he does, he prefers war type books. (i.e. Clive Cussler).

  6. OH what a fantastic post. You are so lucky with yor Dad. I <3 that he loved Twilight. Give him a hug from me :D

  7. What a great post idea! My Dad reads mostly books about Nascar and magazines like National Geographic. But he watches the coolest shows on TV and how things are made and all kinds of cool science type things. He's pretty fun to be around. v

  8. Great post idea! My dad doesn't read that much but I've been trying to convince him that he absolutely has to read the Harry Potter series (which he started. once. but didn't finish, I actually can't remember why), The Hunger Games, and The Forest of Hands and Teeth (he's a sucker for zombies).

  9. It's so cool that your Dad reads (listens ; ) ) to YA/MG books. Even when my Dad started watching HP, he didn't pick up the books!

So lame that NO one in my family reads YA like I do. Not even my 15 year old brother, he'd rather play video games : (

  10. I got my dad to read the Twilight series when it first came out and he even read them up until Breaking Dawn's release! I have yet to get him to read any more though I think he would like Hunger Games!

  11. Bahahaha my Dad likes Twilight too. But not the books, just the movies. And the rest of my family hates them! Haha. XD As for books in general he honestly just doesn't read. :P

  12. I wish you all could see my dad's library. He is a BIG bookworm.

But don't get all excited he reads the most boring stuff ever (well now that I read YA, I find it boring but I used to like it before). He reads politics (TONS AND TONS and Tons of it) and books like The Capital by Karl Marx and the constitution (for fun) he also reads biographies (tons of them too).

  13. My dad has read a few of the Harry Potters, but doesn't read very much. My mom is the reader! And I'd like to say that I listened to Leviathan on audiobook and that reader is AWESOME! My favorite by far!
