Possible Epic Score for The Hunger Games Movie!

So there have been some rumors that Danny Elfman will be doing to the score for
The Hunger Games movie (out 3/23/12).
I'm very excited about this! I've been a huge Danny Elfman fan for a while now,
and I think he is a perfect choice for The Hunger Games
But I am really surprised to find that a lot of people aren't very happy about Danny Elfman.
So I thought maybe I would try to change some of your minds (:

Here are some reasons I think Danny Elfman is absolutely perfect for composing The Hunger Games.

- He has incredible diversity with the way he composes music. Danny Elfman has a perfect balance of creating music that flows so beautifully, and yet it always has a taste of darkness is the background.

- Danny Elfman is so freaking creative. It amazes me how great he is.

- Listen to soundtracks he has composed or some of his original stuff like, Serenada Schizophrana. THEN hopefully, some of you will understand.

Danny Elfman is mainly known for composing Tim Burton movies like:
Sleepy Hollow and many, many more.

He also composes many other movies like:
Good Will Hunting (directed by Gus Van Sant)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (directed by Henry Selick)
Meet The Robinsons (directed by Stephen J. Anderson)
Nacho Libre (Directed by Jared Hess)

And so much more!

  1. Danny Elfman is an excellent composer...and he was in the band Oingo Boingo. I also like John Williams, but maybe he wasn't asked because the HG peeps didn't like the Harry Potter movie music. *Sad*

  2. I'm so glad you didn't lump The Nightmare Before Christmas with Tim Burton's movies! *fist bump*

Though I do see people's concern. Even with his immense creativity and diversity, he has a very familiar quality that runs through almost every one of his scores. Even Meet the Robinsons has this tonal quality that makes me go "Oh yeah. I can totally hear Danny Elfman's touch in this." I actually think his most surprising, unknown, and "unlike" him score he has done is for the movie Black Beauty. Gorgeous score (and so very hard to find now). You are right about the lyrical and edgy aspect to his music though.

  3. @Amy I love John Williams also... he is perfection! However, Danny Elfman has such a great signature to his composing, almost dark sound to his music. It should be very interesting (if it does happen, which I hope it does))to see The Hunger Games through his eyes.

  4. I hope this is true! Danny Elfman is the best film composer and I know he would do something awesome.

I disagree with Heather. Although many of the scores Elfman does have similar themes and tonalities, sometimes I've watched a film like Nacho Libre or Terminator Salvation or Hellboy II where I had no idea who had made the music, but loved it. They are all composed by Danny Elfman. I think he's much better than people give him credit for.

  5. Danny will be awesome. I love his tone and the added epicness he adds to movies.
I cannot wait for the games to begin.

  6. @Teril I LOVE YOUR COMMENT... just sayin!

  7. I LOVE Danny Elfman! If my book is ever pub'd and made into a movie, I would LOVE to have him do the score for it. Of course I wouldn't have thought of him as the composer for this movie off the bat, but since I love his music I'm sure it will be awesome!

  8. Oh hell yes. I swear everything he composes is amazing. Whether or not it will end up as dark as everything he's done for Tim Burton and Nightmare before Christmas etc...This will be interesting if the rumours are true...Thanks for the heads up!

  9. Well there you go , didnt know he was in Oingo come along way since then:D

  10. So happy about Danny Elfman. That's a CV to boast of!

  11. @titania86 - Oh, I adore Danny Elfman. He's brilliant. He is one of my favorite composers. His use of minor-keys will definitely give an unsettling feeling to the Hunger Games world (which is needed. This isn't an action movie). If he is picked, he will bring a lot to the score, and I'm excited either way.

  12. I would die of happiness if the rumor turns out to be true and we will have Danny for the movie!

it's the first time I'm happy with a (possible) choice of the movie people (:

  13. Hm. His music is usually softer than The Hunger Games is, so I'm curious as to how he'll twist his genre to fit the movie, especially since music is so important to Katniss. Anyway, I'm totally pumped! I was hoping Hans Zimmer would compose, but this I'm definitely okay with ;D

  14. This would be absolutely amazing! I love Danny Elfman's work and, really, music is a HUGE part of a movie. I loved the "Alice" song that can be found in Alice in Wonderland. Genius. I hope this plays out!

  15. I agree with you, Abbe, Elfman has the edge many of the HG scenes are going to need. I don't want something generic, and would prefer the producers take a "gamble" than play it safe, yeah?
