Fifteen-year-old Bridget Liu just wants to be left alone: by her over-protective mom, by Matt Quinn, the cute son of a local police sergeant, and by the eerie voices she can suddenly and inexplicably hear. Unfortunately for Bridget, the voices are demons—and Bridget possesses the rare ability to banish them back to whatever hell they came from. Literally.

Terrified to tell her friends or family about this new power, Bridget confides in San Francisco’s senior exorcist, Monsignor Renault. The monsignor enlists her help in increasingly dangerous cases of demonic possession, but just as she is starting to come to terms with her freakish new role, Bridget receives a startling message from one of the demons. And when one of her oldest friends is killed, Bridget realizes she’s in deeper than she ever thought possible. Now she must unlock the secret to the demons’ plan before someone else close to her winds up dead—or worse, the human vessel for a demon king.

Creepy happenings, freaky ghost cats, and possessed dolls.....yeah POSSESSED DOLLS whose eyes follow you and who shout out cryptic messages at you. There might not be any spinning heads in Possess, but this book's story is straight out of a horror movie.  Let me just tell you right now, if things like demons and possessions bother you, you will be freaked out by this book.  Gretchen Mcneil doesn't hold anything back when it comes to Possessing your mind with her story.

I really liked Bridget's voice a lot.  It isn't too often that I just really feel like the person telling the story is really interesting and engaging.  I really noticed the way that she spoke, the words she used, and especially her sarcasm.  It was just fun to be in her head.  I also enjoyed reading about the will-they-won't-they, full-of-tension, JUST KISS HIM ALREADY relationship between Bridget and Matt.  I love, love, love it when a relationship takes time to build and isn't just instant sparks out of nowhere.

There were so many little plot twists, mysteries and puzzles to solve.  At one point I spent a good 15 minutes trying to decipher a was driving me insane!!  Yeah....I didn't figure it out....

While this book was creepy, and you may not want to read it in the house alone, it wasn't that scary.  I don't think it will cause nightmares or anything.  But if you like a little feel of "The Exorcist" without being completely scared out of your mind, I think you'll like this book.
