This is a spoiler free review! Even if you haven't read the first two books, please read this review.
Let me just start out by saying, this is the THIRD book in a series. If you know how I feel about series syndrome, you should know that means that I must LOVE THIS BOOK!! Otherwise, I would never have made it this far. People, listen, if you are in any way a fan of Epic Fantasy, you must read this series. It is, next to Harry Potter, my favorite series ever. It is that good.
If you read my review of The Demon King and The Exiled Queen (books 1 and 2 in the series), you'll know that it wasn't love at first chapter for me. It took me a while to get into the story. I have a hard time with books that have a lot of detail, and the Demon King started out a little slowly for me. But, after much prodding from The Book Guru, I kept reading, and before long, I fell in love. And now, as I've finished the third book, I am amazed at how this series is just getting better and better. The Demon King was really good. The Exiled Queen was fantastic. The Gray Wolf Throne was amazing!!
This series has everything that you could possibly want. It's like a mix between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, with quite a bit more romantic tension to top things off.
Magic, danger, betrayal, fighting, war, love and romance, this book had all the things I love most in a story. I love when a writer is able to show all sides of a story, and go in all different directions with the different characters, then somehow bring it all back together, weaving it into one tale, where the smallest action from one character can change the course of another character's life.(Yes, I just quoted myself)
Han and Raisa are phenomenal characters. Raisa is such a fighter. I think that she is my new favorite female character in a book. And Han....wow!! Yes. That's is all.
Since I listened to the first two on audiobook and loved them so much, I had every intention of waiting for this one to come out on audio before I dove in. But when I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy from Disney, I couldn't wait. I read half of the 528 page book that night, and the rest I read at BookExpo America, where I had my pick of any highly anticipated release. Does that explain how much I love this book?
There are very few books out there that evoke the passion and longing and excitement that this book has given me. If you like fantasy at all, read it! READ IT!! You will thank me later!
