  1. I have to say the one character I would like to slap some sense into it would have to be Elena from Vampire Diaries. In the books, Elena does not make the smartest decisions, and is kind of helpless. I like Elena in the TV show much better.

  2. Hmm tough one. This is gonna sound weird but probably Eowyn from Lord of the Rings. I just don't see why shes so dependant on Aragorn, I just want her to be independent!

    Thanks!

  3. I don't know, maybe Jacob from Twilight. If I was him I'd kill Edward not thinkig twice!

  4. I'd like to slap City of Fallen Angels' Jace Wayland, I couldn't stand "angsty Jace"! Why Cassandra, why?!

  5. One character I would like to slap some sense into would be Elena from The Vampire Diaries, too. She is so stupid there and I´m sorry for that word. :)

  6. I'd love to slap some sense into Ever from the Immortals. I seriously can't stand her OR her decisions!

  7. The "twins" in "Bumped" ... yup, both of them ... and come to think of it, I felt like kicking Tally from "Uglies" to, at least in the beginning of the book.

  8. First person that springs to mind is Nora from Hush, Hush. Gaslighting a girl is no way to woo her. Patch is a creep.

Funny thing, though: I was surprised to see so many guys in the comments. Like, genuinely surprised. What does that say the YA industry (or maybe myself) that I automatically assumed we were slapping sense into the female characters?

@Birgit: Just slap one of the Bumped twins so hard the other feels it. Two birds...

  9. Great books this week! :) And I totally feel you about the Clockwork Prince thing. I want it so badly! D:

If I could slap some sense into a character, it's probably be Cassia from Matched. I'm Team Xander so really, I just wanted to yell at her everytime she spent time with Ky. Ky was just... I just... didn't see the appeal in him. Plus, when you have a best friend who loves you who you're supposed to marry, why would you fall in love with someone else?!

  10. Ok, I'd slap some sense into Dimitri. (Vampire Academy, Spirit Bound)
    I mean, who whouldn't!?
I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I only say he really annoyed me! Come on.

  11. Definitely Beth from Hades by Alexandra Adornetto, although Ever from the Immortals series by Alyson Noel and Luce in Passion by Lauren Kate come in as close seconds. Beth is rash, impulsive, and way too naive and easy to manipulate; there're moments where she says she shouldn't be doing something but she ends up doing it the next.

  12. I'd have to slap Emily from Fury. I mean come on! There were some scenes I just wanted to shake her!

  13. *THIS IS NOT A CONTEST ENTRY*
Nice bookies, Deadly Cool and Hades are both really good, now that I know Don't Breathe A Word is so amazing I'll get started on my ARC.

  14. Ok, I just had to answer too! Great question, Amy!!

I would absolutely LOVE to slap Nora from Hush, Hush!!! I mean get a freaking backbone, girl!! Why on earth would you want to be with a guy who sexually harasses you and treats you like a doormat?? UGH!

Oh, and there were a couple of times I wanted to slap Linny from The Sky is Everywhere. I love, love, love that book, but I was wishing I could crawl into the pages a couple of times!! *SLAP*

  15. I'd love to slap Meghan during The Iron Daughter because she was SO whiny about Ash that I wanted to pull my hair out by the end of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I would love slap Claire from Morganville Vampires. REally take care of yourself first and let your friends protect themselves. no offense.

  17. I would like to slap some sense into Beth from the Halos series. Sometimes she makes me so mad because she is so naive.

  18. I agree, I need to slap Nora from Hush Hush, now. It's just degrading.

  19. I think probably Lev from Unwind. Most of the choices he makes throughout the book just get on my frickin' nerves, and his attitude is mostly annoying too!

  20. Chelsea from Past Perfect. WHY would she not tell her best friend???

  21. Great IMM this week I really need to see what The Taker is about since I have no clue but if Amy loves it I need to check it out. Don't Breathe a Word also sounds amazing.
I hope you enjoy/enjoyed all of the books you got. :)

  22. The character I would choose is Jacob from Twilight. It is great that he stuck around but really he should have let go of Bella much earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd have to choose Kate Brown from Perfect You by Elizabeth Scott. I had to control myself to not throw the book on the wall almost the whole freaking time. She doesn't listen to the her love interest (Will) and keep sticking with the most horrible best friend in the world -who left her when the said best friend lost weight and became popular-.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd like to slap Nora from the Hush,Hush series because I think that she acts careless and reckless and somebody should put some sense into her!

  25. Zoey Redbird from House of Night series is one girl I want to slap so badly! I mean...choose girl! You CANNOT have THREE guys hanging onto you at the same time.YOU choose one or atleast narrow it down to two but noooo your suitors keep on increasing per book!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would like to slap all the characters from 13 reasons why. All them are stupid!

  27. Perhaps it is really sad for me to say this, but there are very FEW female protognists that I don't just want to bang their head against a wall.

In light of recent releases, I'm going to agree with the public and say Nora. I didn't mind her much in the first two books, but in SILENCE it was just....GAH! DUMB BLEEP!!!!

And if I were to pick a male character, I'd maybe pick Dimitri Belikov in Spirit Bound and Last Sacrifice. I loved him so much, but then he started being dumb and I slowly switched to Team Adrian. *Cries*

...Not sure if I'm supposed to leave my email address, but...

  28. Zoey Redbird really annoys me! She does not make smart decisions when it comes to boys...

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would also want to slap Zoey Redbird from the House of Night series, as the series progressed she got more and more frustrating. I wanted to scream come on girl can't you even make one decision!!! In the end I just gave up on the series!

  30. Ooh! Interesting question... I would really like to slap some sense into Reed Brennan from Kate Brian's Private series. You'd think after the 5th attempt on her life she wouldn't be so quick to follow anonymous text messages sending her to abandoned fields/houses/etc!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree with you on Bella, I really wanted to shake her sometimes when reading the series, and say 'wake up, girl, vampires are dangerous!'. I think Edward wanted to do that sometimes too:)

Another character that had me groaning and wanting to slap her was Tally from the Uglies series, but that was because she was just so clueless. When the series progressed, she grew up.

  32. Bella Swan (Twilight), Nora Grey (Hush, Hush), Lucinda Price (Fallen), Bethany Church (Halo), Calla Tor (Nightshade), Jacinda Jones (Firelight), Cassia Reyes (Matched), and loads more. There are just too many to choose from really.

    Thanks!

  33. I would like to slap Jacob from Twilight. I think he so very selfish and also conceited. I know he was there for Bella when she needed him the most but her heart has always belonged to Edward. Anyone could see that. He should have left her go. Tore923@aol.com

  34. I want to slap Zoey from the House of Night series...Bella Swann from Twilight (which you already mentioned), Kay Scarpetta from the Scarpetta series, and numerous others that annoy me from time to time : )

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'd have to say Ever from the Immortals series. She just makes the dumbest decisions EVER. I still have te last book sitting on my shelf to read. I guess I will force myself to finish one day.

  37. I think Zooey Commander from Forget You by Jennifer Echols is the person I would like to slap, she is so boring and ridiculous.

  38. I love your giveaways! I am a follower and I would say I would love to slap SIN (Sinclair Youngblood Powers) from the book Swoon by Nina Malkin... .he needs someone to kick his @#$! SIN you just can't do things like that to people.

  40. I'd like to actually slap some sense into Megan Chase from The Iron King. I've just started the book. I'm up to about page 100, and I think because of her actions is why I am not falling in love with this series. She is too darn accepting of everything and jumps right into situations without even thinking first. Who does that? I've put the book down for now, but will probably pick it up again later and try to give it another go because I was disappointed that I didn't like it as everyone else did.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Actually there are a few characters I would like nothing more than to slap some sense into them.
    1. Mia from the Princess Diaries, if you read the series then you know why.
    2. Karigan from Green Rider, because sometimes she can be pretty dense.
    3. Ever from Evermore, that girl just generally needed to some sense slapped into her.
    4. Clary from The Mortal Intruments, because I just do. =)

  42. There are two (besides Bella) that come to mind first:

    A) Nora Gray from Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick - Half the time he treats her like crap, or scares the shit out of her. Not a good relationship and she should more on.

    B) Kitty Norville from the Kitty series by Carrie Vaughn - Kitty is getting boring and she chose the wrong guy. Ben is even more boring than she is! I stopped reading the series because Kitty kept pissing me off and I despise Ben. Can't she see that Cormac is so much better?

There are probably a whole bunch more I'll think of after I post this comment, but for now, these two are the ones that I'd want to slap most.

  43. Hmmm..this is kinda hard, after all the years of me reading there are many I would love to slap sense into! Here are just a few:
    Belle in Another Faust
Scarlett from Gone With the Wind
    Eragon in Eargon
The Cat in the Hat in The Cat in the Hat
    Jane in Jane Eyre
    Katsa in Graceling
    and there are many more!!

  44. Hahaha! Bella of Twilight. That's good. But on to more important matters. I would slap some sense into Jared Sage (Bloodlines) head. Sure, he isn't a main character, but he doesn't listen to Sydney and doesn't take her side when it comes to Keith and all his accusations. For Pete's sake, it's his own daughter. Like Sydney said in the book, I too think he regrets having only daughters. I hate people like that. And I would slap him good and hard. :D

P.S. I'd probably slap most of the characters also named on this post too.

  45. Ha! Where do I start... Well, there's Bella. Duh. The most whiny and useless female in the whole world. And John/ Four. What an idiot... And let's see... Ever from The Immortals, Helen from Starcrossed, heck, even Clary from TMI! .........If I did slap them all, my palm would be so red. :P

  46. From recently read books, I'd probably choose Rachel from Something Borrowed, by Emily Griffin. :) Thanks for the giveaway; I'm a new blog follower.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I would have to say Saba from Blood Red Road. She was so mean and harsh to her little sister for most of the book and insited on doing everything alone. She got much better by the end of the book though.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Okay, first of all: Bella Swan. Like a thousand times, and if I still have a hand left at the end I'd move on to Schuyler from Blue Bloods. She's so selfish, but doesn't recognize it, and after treating her best friend like shit instead she's insulted when he gets mad at her. She just rushes blindly into things and only succeeds in making it worse and she's so ANGSTY. I hate her as a narrator, Bliss & Mimi totally make that series for me.
Wow this turned out rantier than I thought lol

  49. I wanted to slap Harry in The Order of Phoenix when he had such a hissy fit. Just because Hermione and Ron knew about TOoP and he didn't, he didn't have to throw a tantrum! Besides, he should have realised Dumbledore had a reason for keeping it a secret. Dumbledore kept everything a ruddy secret. Forget Harry I wanted to slap the dead Dumbledore in TDH when his life story came out.

  50. I would like to slap some sense to:
    - Nora Gray from Hush Hush, sometimes while i was reading I shake and grab and throw the book so hard because she annoyed me so much!
    - Violet Ambrose from Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting, OMG! all her family is trying to protect and she love to act like a brat.
    - And of course Bella Swan from Twilight! How many times she can play like stupid!?! To many I think! Argh!

  51. If I got to slap one book character, I would definitely choose Amelia from Hereafter. (WARNING: RANT INCOMING!!!)
She has been wandering around in nowhere for over a decade. That's over TEN years. Ten years?! You can do so much in that amount of time! Get a PhD, find the cure to cancer, start a family, go to jail... but no! All she does is wander around dejectedly and moan and weep and etcetera, etcetera, etcetera... And then there's that cliched 'perfect' guy who finds her and then they have some soppy romance together. Only then does she find out her full name and who her family is. Just because she wasn't bothered to check her gravestone.

This is enough ranting for, now but I would DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY slap some sense into Amelia from Hereafter!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'd definitely like to slap Nora from Hush, Hush. There are actually quite a few characters I'd like to slap, like anyone from a paranormal romance (ladies, those guys are creeps. And guys, those girls are way too young for you), but if I had to be specific, it would be her. She was just so stupid!

    Love this week's question! :)

  53. I'd definitely slap Ever from Evermore. This girl has a gift to annoy me !

    Thanks !
