(Bloomsbury, November 8, 2011) Emily is sick and tired of being a middle sister. So when she gets an assignment to describe what she'd change about a classic novel, Emily pounces on Little Women. After all, if she can't change things in her own family, maybe she can bring a little justice to the March sisters. (Kill off Beth? Have cute Laurie wind up with Amy instead of Jo? What was Louisa May Alcott thinking?!) But when Emily gets mysteriously transported into the world of the book, she discovers that righting fictional wrongs won't be easy. And after being immersed in a time and place so different from her own, it may be Emily-not the four March sisters-who undergoes the most surprising change of all. Lauren Baratz-Logsted's winning confection will appeal to fans of Little Women as well as anyone who enjoys a modern twist on an old favorite.

Character This or That by Emily from Little Women and Me
  • Night or day
Day. Far more seems to happen in Little Women, and thus Little Women and Me, during the daytime. It's almost like the Marches don't believe in night!
  • family or friends
Family. Being a middle sister in her real life and in the fiction world she somehow gets sucked into, Emily definitely suffers from sibling rivalry. But she needs her family no matter how crazy they make her.
  • Plane or train
Train. In the 1800s, it has to be a train. If a plane were to suddenly materialize, people would think Emily's a witch.
  • Pie or cake
Pie! (Now I'm hungry.)
  • Past or future
Future. Since she's been living in the past, she naturally wants to know what her real future holds.
  • Small town or city
Small town. After being stuck in a book, even a small town would seem huge.
  • Country or pop music
Pop music.
  • Comfort or style
Comfort and style. Emily would gladly ditch the corset but she'd also really like to wear something cooler than a bonnet and army boots.
  • M&Ms or Starburst
M&Ms. Until Starburst includes chocolate, it will always be M&Ms.
  • Summer or winter
Summer. Those New England winters could be pretty harsh in the 1860s.
  • Coke or Pepsi
Pepsi, Lime Diet Pepsi to be specific.
  • Bones or House
House.
  • Call or text
Call.
  • Laurie or Professor Baer
HA! Laurie - such an easy question.

Yeah...we think that's an easy question too!  Thanks so much Lauren....I mean Emily.....for answering our "This or That" questions!  Can't wait to read about your version of Little Women.

  1. This was interesting to read (recently finished LITTLE WOMEN & ME). I wish that the author had answered from Emily's POV though, instead of third person.
