Dangerous promises and beguiling threats swirl together in a dozen stories of enchantments, dark and light, by bestselling author Melissa Marr. Tales of favorite characters from Marr's Wicked Lovely novels mix with accounts of new characters for readers to fall in love with - or to fear.
"Once - a long time ago before CHANGE had come - there was a girl whose father was a king." Nesha was a princess, but she carried a curse. She carried, in her breath, Winter's Kiss. She could never be happy with her family, because she was in constant danger of hurting them, or the land they relied on for food and warmth. Before long, she decides she will leave, and find a place where she won't have to live in fear. Along her journey she encounters a strange winter bear, who seems to want to help her. Nesha finds more than she expects when she follows the bear to his home.
Melissa has an incredible gift of storytelling, and fairy-tales are her specialty. I'm not sure if this story was meant to actually be set in the world of Faery, or if it is just a magical world, but it was fantastical either way. It's funny because I don't really like cold weather, or snow, but I find reading about "winter wonderlands" magical. This was the first story I read in Faery Tales & Nightmares, and I really enjoyed it. If there's ever more to the story of Nesha and her bear, I will definitely be reading it!
