Book Review: Revan by Drew Karpyshyn

There’s something out there:
a juggernaut of evil bearing down to crush the Republic—
unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it.
Revan: hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. A Jedi who left Coruscant to defeat Mandalorians—and returned a disciple of the dark side, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was high. His memories have been erased. All that’s left are nightmares—and deep, abiding fear.
What exactly happened beyond the Outer Rim? Revan can’t quite remember, yet can’t entirely forget. Somehow he stumbled across a terrible secret that threatens the very existence of the Republic. With no idea what it is, or how to stop it, Revan may very well fail, for he’s never faced a more powerful and diabolic enemy. But only death can stop him from trying.

My Review

Star Wars has always been my favorite. The idea, the universe, everything. Just incredible stuff. The video game series, Knights of the Old Republic has been my favorite video games for years. I, along side many avid fans, have been waiting for the third installment of the series for years. To continue this story that we all love. When it was announced that instead of creating a third game to finish the story, that there would be a book written, I had mixed feelings. On one side, there was the video game that I had been waiting for for so long. On the other hand, there was a book, and I love books. Once I finally got my hands on this long-awaited novel, I didn't have any regrets.

This is a great book and although there are some factors that many KotOR fans will not like, I thought that this was an overall great ending to this series. Revan, whom most had thought to be the most powerful Force-user in the history of Star Wars, is an incredible main character. This book reveals pretty much anything and everything that fans wonder about the Prodigal Knight's life. How everything came to be. It is absolutely amazing.

This book is for those who have played and enjoyed the Knights of the Old Republic games. This finishes the story that so many have wanted finished for so long. However, even if you haven't played the games, this book does a great job of recapping what happened. So this is a great book for any Star Wars readers.

  1. I had seen this on the shelves and I had figured they were just rehashing the story from games 1 and 2 but now that I know it's THE ending to Revan's story I'm going to find a copy!!! I don't know if you've tried playing the new MMO The Old Republic set some time after the last game? It's pretty awesome but I haven't gotten very far but there were still some allusions to Revan and the visible marks of history he left behind on the galaxy. Ah I'm so excited now! Thanks for reading and reviewing this!

  2. I've just recently been getting into the Star Wars novels and I think (so far) the Old Republic ones have been my favourite. This sounds like a really good one. Thanks for the review!
