Every Saturday, we will post the books available, and the following Saturday, we will announce the winner and our next challenge. The winner will get to choose a book from the list and we will ship it to that lucky person! Each week we will have a different challenge to complete.
This Week's Question:
I just started watching The Vampire Diaries. I have to say, I think it's much better than the book. Are there any book-to-tv shows that you watch? Is it better than the book?

I have wanted to watch Vampire Diaries...but I am too busy reading books. Someday, I will watch them=)
ReplyDeleteGood question. I would have to say Gossip Girl. Loved the book series but I think that the TV series completely ruined the books. It's been going on for a while now & they pulled every trick in the hat trying to create interesting twists. I was so sicked at the beginning that there was going to be a TV show too.
ReplyDeleteLisseth @read-a-holicz.blogspot.com
I haven't seen any other shows from books. I saw the first 2 seasons of tvd and they are nothing like the book, to the point I feel like you almost cant compare them because they are so different.
ReplyDeleteI loved Vampire Diaries the tv series but I never read the books so I can't compare!!! I also enjoyed Gossip Girl but once again I never read the books so honestly I don't know which one is better!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Vampire Diaries ;p Hating that whole love triangle thing. Won't watch it, either :p But I do watch True Blood :D And The Walking Dead. <3 But haven't read any books from those.. But I do believe they are better than the books, still ;) Hih :)
ReplyDeleteLove, Carina
I LOVE Vampire Diaries tv show as well as the Secret Circle. Didnt read either series. Vampire Diaries I look forward to watching all week :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book-based television show is Game of Thrones. To my delight, they are so very close to the books, which are fantastic, that I can never find fault with an episode. The other series I watch is True Blood, which, in my opinion, is ten times better than the books.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I've ever watched Vampire Diaries, but maybe I will once I have some free time!
I will say Pretty Little Liars, I have read the first 4 books and watched the whole Tv series, and so far the TV show is doing better
ReplyDeleteThe show is so much better thank the books, right? I've read them until book 7 or something and they are boring as hell.
ReplyDeleteI watch Game of Thrones which is amazing! The first season follows the first book pretty closely but the second season is exploring more from books 2 and 3 and the writers have more freedom to change things but they're so great I don't even mind the changes. :D
I dropped the book version of TVD after book 4. The show really is so much better. Pretty Little Liars show is also better than the books, but I keep reading the books because I like to see what they transfer over to the show. I was hoping that The Lying Game was going to be just as good as the PLL show, but I have to say that I prefer the books with this series. Gossip Girl is another one; the characters have much more depth and I like to see the family dynamics which is portrayed at all in the books.
ReplyDeleteI definitely like TVD show better than the books and I think it's mainly because of Elena's character. She's so shallow and vapid in the books and much more rounded in the show. I can't think of any other book to TV shows that I watch hmmmm... Oh, The Walking Dead (I've only seen S1), but I thought it did a great job of matching the tone of the books, so I like them both equally right now.
ReplyDeleteThe Vampire Diaries tv is show is so much better than the book series. I usually never say that.
ReplyDeleteI watch PRETTY LITTLE LIARS and yes is better than the book. And you are right The vampire diaries tv show is so much good than the book. I want more tv shows :)
ReplyDeleteI watch The secret circle too but is so lame.....I didn't read the book but I hope is better than the tv show.
Now I wait for The selection TV show variant to come out :)
xoxo
The only two series turned TV show that I have watched is Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries. I defiantly like the Vampire Diaries TV show better. I'm not sure about Pretty Little Liars But if I had to pick one I'd probably go with the books.
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny because I just started watching TVD two days ago - I'm about to finish season 1 :) I haven't read the books yet though.
ReplyDeleteMy husband just recently finished the first Game of Thrones book and we watched the first episode of season 1 last night and he thought it was on point and was very pleased with it.
I'm trying to think of any other tv shows I watch based on books, but I can't. :(
I watch True Blood (based off the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris). I can't say that one is better than the other. I love them both. The show makes enough changes that it can stand on its own.
ReplyDeleteThe Vampire Diaries!
ReplyDeleteWell...I know I watched THE SECRET CIRCLE... but not anymore :S But, it WAS pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteI read the The Vampire Diaries after I watched the show, and I liked the shows way better. Maybe it was because I watched the show first and then read the books. They were like 2 totally different things. I actually wrote an article about it on my online magazines. Check it out:http://www.wovenmyst.com/2012/02/02/the-vampire-diaries-the-books-vs-the-show-characters/
ReplyDeleteThanks for the the giveaway! :D
I love True Blood the tv show. The books? Not so much.
ReplyDeleteThe only shows I've ever watched that came from books are Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, and the Secret Circle. I've never read the Secret Circle, so i can't exactly say which would be better, but the show is alright :)
ReplyDeleteThe Vampire Diaries is, of course, AWESOME! Pretty Little Liars as a show is pretty good, but I think the books are much better :)
I don't watch any book-based shows, but I do watch shows based on manga. I haven't seen it in a while, but I definitely liked the Death Note anime more than the manga. I haven't actually read the manga for most of the other animes I watch.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about tv shows because i haven't read any the the books but I like the movie of The Notebook better than the book.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch any book based TV show... =(
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Vampire Diaries:) So the only books to Tv shows i can think of is Pretty Little Liars, the Lying Games, and Gossip Girl. I think that for PLL, the books and the show are about the same. I like both(the books and the shows), but i think they are both getting realllly tedious. For the Lying Games, I LOVE the show:) i can't get enough of it:). The books are ok, but i think the show is a little bit better. And for Gossip Girl, I like the books better. There's like 9 or 10 GG books i think, but they ended and the GG show has been going on for about 3 or 4years and it's a good-ish show, but it has just been dragged on forever and it's kind of annoying now.
ReplyDelete-JennyC
gosh that is a long comment that i made:/
I can't think of any other ones besides the Vampire Diaries. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteI watch The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Circle, and True Blood. I like the books and the shows.
ReplyDeleteI love Sherlock! It's a great adaptation, but I can't say it's better or worse than the book. Same with the Lizzie Bennet diaries on Youtube. (Although I don't know if that counts?)
ReplyDeleteI hope that Kiera Cass' the Selction makes it out of pilot season. And I love the Vampire Diaries. Watched it from episode one!
ReplyDeleteI can only think of one t.v. show or movie that was better than the book and that is Stuart Little. The movie was much more cute and touching. In the book I always thought it was creepy that the mom actually gave birth to a mouse! What was going on in the mom's life? Was she around too many hazardous chemicals? Was she having a juicy affair with a gerbil? That is just sick!
ReplyDeleteI used to watch The Nine Lives of Chloe King, and even though it only had one season, I felt the books were better. The books incorporated details that were not in the tv show, but there were some aspects of the tv show that were better than the book. I am really tempted to describe the differences between the too, but it's kind of spoilerish, so read the trilogy and watch the tv show to compare :) But in my opinion The Books > The TV Show.

I´ve seen a lot of movies based on books and so far I had always prefer the book. I watch the secret circle, gossip girl and The Vampire Diaries.
ReplyDeleteI´ve red only the two first books of Gossip Girl, so I can say that when it comes to entertainment the tv series is much better, but they always change A TON of things so is kind of pointless to pretend they´re actually following the book´s plot.
That´s my humble opinion, but in the end a book is always better than any TV-MOVIE adaptation hollywood can make
I watch The Vampire Diaries (which outshines the book). Also Dexter. This is a little different. I really love both versions. The book should be better, but they've done something with the show...it's just too good.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch Pretty Little Liars, but I don't anymore.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch VD simply because I LOVE the books and I know how much they've changed the show, so I don't bother. It'd just confuse me. I do think the casting of Stephan and Damon is SPOT ON though :)
ReplyDeleteRecently I'm watching Game of Thrones which is AWESOME!!! I read the first book and loved it, since they barely missed out anything I just continued to watch the second season. But I can't take the suspense so I might just read the whole series this summer hols :D
I haven't read the books yet, but my daughter has. While she liked the books, she absolutely loves the tv show. I don't watch very much tv, so I'm sure I'll probably just read the books eventually.
ReplyDeleteI watch the lying game. I think the books are better then the show.
ReplyDeleteI am a Dexter fan- the TV show is far better than the books, because the show really makes him a more complex character. I also used to watch The Dresden Files, although short-lived. However, in that case, the books are a much better and in-depth characterization.
ReplyDeleteI though True Blood wasn't near as good as the Sookie books. But the one that totally stands out for me is Cold Mountain. I adored the movie but even though I tried on several occasions to read the book, never got any further than the first 100 pages.

I am completely, shamefully addicted to the Gossip Girl television show. So much so that I tried to read the books. I HATED them.
ReplyDeleteOf course there are a bunch, but I usually haven't read/seen both. haha.

I haven't watched Vampire Diaries, but I have watched Dexter, True Blood, Game of Thrones, and Secret Circle. Interestingly, I haven't read any of the books that accompany them. I do want to read True Blood and Game of Thrones at some point though.
ReplyDeletesnaugle81@gmail.com
I love the tv series Sherlock that is made in England. The actor who plays Sherlock and Watson are amazing! It is my favorite tv series adaption of the books.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch any tv adaptations of tv shows, but I have been wanting to try Game of Thrones and Sherlock. :)
ReplyDeleteNope, I haven't watched any book to tv adaptations...not even The Vampire Diaries though I did watch the first season hehe and loved it but my sister says that she likes the tv series more than the books :D
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love The Vampire Diaries(the show). I have the first two books and I started reading it and I'm sure it's great but I'm glad the show is so different. It's a big book series but one day I might read them but for now I'm just going to stick to the show. I also watch Pretty Little Liars. I read the first book and it was great. It's actually funny how all the events that happened in that book took place in the pilot episode. Obviously the series is huge and I am so happy that the show is continuing as well, I can't get enough. The Lying Game I definitely want to read. I read the sample on my Nook and it seems so awesome. The show is amazing and yes it's also different but still I know I would love the books.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any except the Vampire Diaries. I think the show is great and maybe better than the book because I like the actors!
ReplyDeleteI watch a few shows that started as books. Vampire Diaries, Secret Circle, and True Blood to name a few. I've never read any of the Vampire Diaries or Secret Circle books, so I can't compare. Although I do love the shows. I think the actors totally make the characters. My husband has read the True Blood books and has asked me numerous times to read them. He says they are so much better than the show. I like the show enough to not want to read the books.
ReplyDeleteThe only one I really liked is The Vampire Diaries series. Though The Legend of the Seeker series based on Terry Goodkind's books also wasn't that bad. There's also the Secret Circle TV series but I definitely prefer L.J. Smith's books since they cut like more than half of the cast in the tv show.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any yet!
ReplyDeleteI watch Trueblood and The Vampire Diaries. I think the books are better for both.
ReplyDeleteApart from The Vampire diaries, I also watch True Blood. I like it, but I like the books even better.
ReplyDeleteI watch True Blood and The Secret Circle. I love True Blood, but I think the books are awesome. I've never read any of the Secret Circle books, but I like the show!!
ReplyDeleteI watch Game of Thrones. I haven't read the books yet, so I can't say how it compares.
ReplyDeleteI watch The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle but I haven't read either series yet. I need to get on that and start them soon!
ReplyDeleteI just finished Game of Thrones Season 1 on DVD, and while it's not better than the books, it at least does them justice. My pet peeve is when a tv show ruins the story line in the first episode.
ReplyDeletePretty Little Liars! The books are OK but the show is fantastic! Lots of mystery and suspense. Plus all the characters are really interesting
