Audiobook Interview with Vania from VLC Productions

During the month of June, we're having lots of audiobook awesomeness.  One thing we're doing for JIAM (June is Audiobook Month) is interviewing some audiobook fanatics!

Today we have Vania from VLC Productions with us!  If you haven't checked out her photography, you MUST do so immediately!  She also does phenomenal book trailers for some of the most popular YA books out there, including City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare and Wither by Lauren Destefano!

What originally made you pick up an audiobook to try it?
I had a school commute and had at least half an hour each way that I was wasting, so I started listening to book. I also had a blogger friend of mine who went through audiobooks faster then me due to her longer commute so I had her to recommend me books. Then we ended up talking about them as we would with the ARCs and books we were reading on a regular basis.
I also really enjoyed the experience of an audiobook. If it has a good narrator it ends up bringing a whole new level of enjoyment and a more richer experience.
Where do you usually listen to audiobooks?

Mostly in my car, though recently I've started listening to it while I work. I tend to spend a lot of hours on the computer editing photos or editing book trailers so it's been nice having something to listen to, and getting ahead on my TBR pile at the same time.
How many audiobooks do you listen to a month?
Usually 1 to 2 lately since I don't have school and have not been commuting.
Do you prefer full cast audios or one reader?
Shockingly, I've yet to have listened to a full cast audio. Though have heard great things of the Graceling audio book.
Who are your favorite audiobook readers? (name as many as you'd like)
I fell in love with Cinda Williams Chima's Heir series because of the narrator, Robert Ramirez. *sigh* Also recently loved Nick Podehl narrating Patrick Ness's Knife of Never Letting Go and Erin Moon who's narrated a few great books, especially Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers. Jennifer Ikeda, narrator for Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness is also fantastic.... man I can keep going! :D
Do you like it when there are sound effects or music on the audios?
The Beautiful Creatures audio book and Knife of Never Letting Go had sound effects and I quite enjoyed it! Gives a whole new dimension to the audio experience!
What is your favorite audiobook (excluding Harry Potter, which I will assume is everyone's....don't tell me if it's not :P)
Oh my... so hard! I think my fave over the last year was Deborah Harkness' Discovery of Witches... I literally couldn't stop listening to it, leaving it on during chores, rides, work and even sleep. Yes, I went to sleep with it.
Feel free to mention anything else! :D
If you have an iPod or iPhone, check out the Audible app! It's quite fun and a great way to keep track of your books, hours listened and it gives you achievements as you listen!
Thanks so much, Vania, for taking the time to chat with us!  I'm definitely going to look into that app!  And I'm going to check out A Discovery of Witches!

  2. If you're looking for an excuse to get WITCHES, SacredmOOn, the audiobook is on sale through June 30 on iTunes in the US. $5.95 for the unabridged audio that Vania reviewed. And a huge thank you to Vania for giving Jennifer Ikeda's work such praise. I thought she did a wonderful job, too. --Deb Harkness, aka "Dr. Debs"

  3. Great interview! I've only listened to one audiobook with sounds and it was quite interesting -- definitely added a whole new dimension. I'm interested in listening to a full cast audiobook ... just have to find the right one!

  6. Awesome interview!! I have never listened to a full cast audiobook before either. I have listened to one with a make and female though and I enjoyed that. I think I would listen to more audiobooks if I was working, but being at home with the kiddo I don't listen to them as much. I had been listening in the car when we went places, but I had a few that had profanity in them so now I need to be more careful. I do listen to audiobooks when I workout though, it can work out for longer when immersed in a good audiobook. :)

    1. I have the same problem with the kiddos. We've been listening to middle grade audios though. I tend to always fall back on Harry Potter.

I've started listening to books on my iPod. That way the kids can't hear it. Especially when I'm cleaning the house, or when I'm on the treadmill.
