Payback is paradise in this start to a trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian.
Postcard-perfect Jar Island is home to charming tourist shops, pristine beaches, amazing oceanfront homes—and three girls secretly plotting revenge.
KAT is sick and tired of being bullied by her former best friend.
LILLIA has always looked out for her little sister, so when she discovers that one of her guy friends has been secretly hooking up with her, she’s going to put a stop to it.
MARY is perpetually haunted by a traumatic event from years past, and the boy who’s responsible has yet to get what’s coming to him.
None of the girls can act on their revenge fantasies alone without being suspected. But together…anything is possible.
With an unlikely alliance in place, there will be no more “I wish I’d said…” or “If I could go back and do things differently...” These girls will show Jar Island that revenge is a dish best enjoyed together.

My thoughts:
Before I start this review I must say that I absolutely LOVE Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian.
I love them so much and I love their books.
Now, another thing is, I have been dreading writing this review.
I really have.
Because well, I honestly am not a fan of Burn for Burn.
I wanted to love it so much!
But I felt like it was so....
That's all I can say about it.
I didn't hate it.
And I wasn't crazy about it.
Maybe it's because I had such high expectations for it.
I mean, Jenny Han AND Siobhan Vivian wrote it.
It SHOULD be the best book ever.
The writing was excellent.
I just felt like the entire book was kinda.... immature.
All of the main characters were my age and yet I felt like they were 13.
What I love so much about Jenny Han's books are that they have so much heart and emotion in them.
Like as you're reading it you can feel your heart filling with love and sadness and a ton of other feelings that you can't even describe.
I felt like Burn for Burn was lacking that.
Well anyway, it's hurting my soul to tear this book apart...
So I will just stop now.

This will be a series, so I'm hoping the books get better as the series grows.

I love you Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian and I am sorry I didn't enjoy Burn for Burn ):

3 out of 6 chess pieces

  1. I just finished this one and although I liked it, I definitely see where you are coming from. Personally, I didn't know this was going to be a supernatural book. I think that was a huge part of the problem for me, that it was (is) marketed wrong.

  2. Thank you for your honest review, I appreciate it. I was planning on reading this one right away, but now I think I'll wait and see what others have to say.

  3. It's tough to right a bad review. But don't worry, not every book can be a home run. :) Thanks for sharing your honest review!!

  4. Awww that's a huge bummer that the characters are immature. That tends to be a big problem for me too with books. I was really looking forward to this one too! I'll still give it a chance (after all it is Siobhan Vivian and Jenny Han!) but now my expectations are lowered. That's probably a good thing though. Maybe I'll enjoy it more now. :)

  5. I loved this book to death. Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian wrote this so well. The characters are so three dimensional and well rounded, even the people I hate like Rennie and Mary. This book has a hint of paranormal, which is weird. I hate paranormal books, but I loved this one. In the next book, I hope the questions about Mary get answered and the love triangle gets resolved. I loved this book and I'd recommend it to fans of Pretty Little Liars!
