WHAT'S LEFT OF ME
by Kat Zhang
Reading level: Ages 13 and up
Hardcover: 352 pages
Publisher: HarperCollins (September 18, 2012)
Today I'm excited to have an exclusive interview with a very fascinating person. Kat Zhang, in her book What's Left of Me, tells the story of Addie and Eva, two girls living in one body. We've asked Addie to answer some questions, and even though she doesn't like to talk to strangers much, especially about her "situation," she has reluctantly agreed.
- What was is like sharing a body with Eva when you were younger?
- When Eva was controlling your body, could you take over if you wanted to?
- How did you decide who got to be in control, or did it just happen naturally?
- Now that Eva is "silent," has it been easier for you?
- It sometimes seems like that you're having a hard time with the progress that Eva is making. Are you afraid that if she gains some control, that you will be lost?
- Of course everyone wants to know about romance. Have you ever had a boyfriend? Would it be hard for Eva if you did, or could she disconnect?
- If you could have Eva back, the way she was when you were little, would you want to?
Thank you, Addie, for speaking with us. I know this is a very difficult time for you.
Buy the bookEva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else--two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren't they settling? Why isn't one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn't...
For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she's still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable-hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked away with the others. And yet...for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything.

That sounds scary and kind of sad, sharing your body with another soul and then... that soul fading away. I'm really looking forward to this book!
ReplyDeleteWow! Kinda freaky! Sounds like a very different book! It amazes me how authors continue to come up with new ideas! I sure am glad they do though!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really sad situation! I don't what I'd if I was in her shoes! Really looking forward to read this one!!

ReplyDeleteThank you for an awesome review. I love the character interview aspect, especially since there are two in one body. It's a very interesting concept. Can't wait to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool when you get to interview the actual characters from a book. I'm not sure how much I trust Addie's answers. She seems like she's hiding too many secrets if you ask me. I wonder what she's up to. Thanks for the interview and the giveaway. I'd love a chance to read and review.
ReplyDeleteIt must be hard to share your body with another person.
ReplyDeleteI loved the interview thank you. What an absolutely original idea - fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know how to share my body with someone else. It'd be plain weird and I'm not great on sharing my personal things and I really like my personal space so it would definitely be a hard case for me if it were so that I'd have to share my body with another soul. This interview has a really sad vibe. I just want to give this girl a hug..

ReplyDeleteCan you imagine having another person inside you, trapped. Seeing everything you do, but having no control? Knowing there is another person there, and trying to think about her as well as yourself. Yikes. I am very glad that this book is fiction. I can't imagine it, and don't want to. Thanks for the character interview. Can't wait to get to know the girls better.
