In the beginning, there was an apple –
And then there was a car crash, a horrible injury, and a hospital. But before Evening Spiker's head clears a strange boy named Solo is rushing her to her mother’s research facility. There, under the best care available, Eve is left alone to heal.
Just when Eve thinks she will die – not from her injuries, but from boredom—her mother gives her a special project: Create the perfect boy.
Using an amazingly detailed simulation, Eve starts building a boy from the ground up. Eve is creating Adam. And he will be just perfect . . . won’t he?
At a Glance:
This book was SO. MUCH. FUN. With witty banter, lots of action, and plenty of plot twists, Eve and Adam was one of the most entertaining books I've read in a long time.
Shocker!
I did not expect much from this book, I really don't know why. So, imagine my surprise when I found myself wanting to quote practically every line in the first 6 chapters. It was seriously just fun. It was written in short, rapid-fire sentences, making me think of the way Rory and Lorelai go back and forth in The Gilmore Girls. Or even the way that John Green writes. I think if John Green and Orson Scott Card had a book baby, it would look like this.
And, hey! There's a story too!
Yes, this book was a lot of fun, and it was full of entertaining dialog, but it didn't fall short on the storyline either. There was actually quite a bit going on. If you're not normally into sci-fi, I still think that you will enjoy reading this modern-day sci-fi story. It isn't complicated, but it's still fascinating. With strange experiments, a crazy mother, one perfectly flawed yet swoon-worthy boy, a tattooed scientist, plot twists, intense ,fighting and a boy being put together piece by piece, there was so much to love about this book!
Oh, yeah, add some romantic tension:
I was worried, from the description, that this book wouldn't really have much in the romance department. I mean, if she's spending the whole book creating the perfect boy, how will there be any interaction. Well, I didn't count on Solo. Yes, strange name, but I have to admit, I kind of love it. And him. He was just too funny! The banter between Eve and Solo was great, and I couldn't get enough of it.
Sci-Fi for Dummies:
This is not a complex science fiction novel for the hard core sci-fi intellect. If you're looking for something to rock your brain, you're going to be disappointed. However, if you're wanting a super-quick read, that has you laughing while still making you think, "What if..." then I think you will really like Eve and Adam. I know I did!
Book Doppelgangers:
Scrambled Eggs at Midnight by Brad Barkley and Heather Hepler (for the overall fun feel), The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E Pearson (for the sci-fi-ness), I can't think of anything else because this book was just different! Any suggestions?

DeleteThis book really was so much fun! And like you, I wasn't really expecting to enjoy it so much, so it was a very pleasant surprise :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how we weren't expecting much from it? I wonder why?
DeleteI think I would have liked more of the science part but this book was a lot of fun. Great review!
ReplyDeleteHave you read The Adoration of Jenna Fox? You might like that one!
DeleteI just got this book from the library. I was hesistant about starting it, unsure if I would even care for it, but was wanting to at least give it a chance since it is Micheal Grant. Glad you reviewed it, now I'm anxious to crack it open!
ReplyDeleteOh, good! Yeah, Kit is a big Michael Grant fan, so now she wants to read this one too. Especially when I told her the dialog was similar to Scrambled Eggs at Midnight, one of her favorites.
