I'm going through this phase right now, I've started reading the new trendy "New Adult" or "Smut Fiction" is what people are calling this genre. Here is a good article explaining more about smut Fiction from ABCNews.
Personally, I kind of got bored reading about teens. That is not to say I won't read YA anymore, because I still love to read about fantasy, dystopian, and paranormal. YA authors such as Cinda Williams Chima, Tahereh Mafi, and Julie Kagawa are some of the best in those genre's. I wouldn't want smut fiction in The Demon King series, it would ruin it. This walk on the wild side has introduced a bunch of new authors for my reading pleasure. I have tried some adult books like Beautifully Damaged by L.A.Fiore, Playing For Keeps by R.L.Mathewson, Seal Of Honor by Tonya Burrows, and Real by Katy Evans (my favorite). I like to keep my options open, it's been fun reading about different age groups. Seal Of Honor is a favorite of mine, just because of the intense action. The characters in that book are in their late thirties. I enjoyed it very much. Not near as much drama as the "New Adult" college books.
I started reading new adult/smut fiction from Abbi Glines. I was excited to actually meet her at BEA this year and get her signature, along with Jamie McGuire author of Beautiful Disaster/Walking Disaster. Glines is a wonderful and fun writer. Most of the characters, if not all, are still in college. All the stories usually follow the same pattern: boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl. It's pretty straightforward and simple really. Drama, heated make-out scenes, and more angsty drama. If I wanted to read something that takes a lot of thought I would go back to The Demon King series by Cinda Williams Chima, which I just love. However, I am just in a mood, for a quick shallow read right now. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. You could say it's my poison here lately.
So if you are 18+ I would say pick up one of these books (pictured up top) from Abbi Glines and start something different. Who knows, I might be back on the YA train next week, but for now, I'm enjoying my smut fiction.
Other good "New Adult" books for consideration:
Damaged by H.M. Ward
The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorensen
Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Beautiful Disaster/Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire
Rush Me by Allison Parr
The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken
True by Erin McCarthy
If your favorite new adult/smut fiction didn't make my list, please leave a comment and let me know what that is. Thank-you.
