Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best. Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I've been accused of a crime I didn't commit and now the Hole is my new home. Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain. Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won't die. I won't let them win. The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me. I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter. My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

I am so excited to have been given an opportunity to read and review Branded. It was such a page-turner. I don't normally read self published books, I just don't have the time. However, the synopsis had me at hello. It just sounded very intriguing. Something about the seven deadly sins is going to be interesting. I also like the cover very much, it looks like a book I would pick up in the bookstore. If I had to compare this book to something you might have heard about, it would be Divergent by Veronica Roth and/or Sanctum by Sarah Fine (favorite of 2012).

The concept of this book was amazing. From the very first page I was on edge. I read this book in one day, it just wouldn't stop being exciting. The setting was a dark hellish type camp where all the sinners live. Explosions, shootings, rape, and every other horrible thing you could imagine, happens behind the walls of The Hole. The Commander doesn't care about anything or anyone but power. Lexi was a great heroine. Lexi has been branded with the color blue, which equals lust, on her neck,  She had a very rough start from the beginning, she was so weak and vulnerable. Lexi had to learn to take up for herself and she escapes death many times. I white-knuckled through most of this book. The action scenes were extremely intense. Cole, Lexi's guard, (he was ordered to just protect her, not fall in love with her), was of course protective, kind and very much willing to risk his life to save Lexi. The romance in this book was very sweet, yet heartbreaking. Lexi and Cole struggled so much, just to get a little alone time together. In the Hole, guards are forbidden to touch the sinners in a sexual way, let alone fall in love with one. Ugh.

A few other favorite characters would be Zeus, Cole's crap-for-brains guard dog. Keegan, Lexi's long lost brother. Dr. Sutton, who is in charge of the hospital, where Lexi gets a job. Bruno, Lexi's best friend in The Hole, and defense instructor.

I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to read something different than anything out there right now. The writing is really good, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat. Plus you will be swooning over Lexi and Cole's romantic relationship and cheering them on before you know it!
