The Icons came from the sky. They belong to an inhuman enemy. They ended our civilization, and they can kill us.

Most of us.

Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas are the four Icon Children, the only humans immune to the Icon's power to stop a human heart. Now that Los Angeles has been saved, things are more complicated - and not just because Dol has to choose between Lucas and Ro, the two great loves of her life. As she flees to a resistance outpost hidden beneath a mountain, Dol makes contact with a fifth Icon Child, if only through her visions. When Dol and the others escape to Southeast Asia in search of this missing child, Dol's dreams, feelings and fears collide in an epic showdown that will change more than just four lives -- and stop one heart forever.
If you haven't read ICONS yet, check out my review here.  This may have spoilers for book 1.

(A small recap, because I needed it)
In ICONS, thirteen structures from outer space, known as The Icons, decended on the earth, wiping out huge populations with just an simple electro-magnetic pulse.  No one really seemed to know how they got here, where they came from, who controls them, or what they really want.  When they came, they killed everyone who was near.  Now anytime anyone gets too close, they immediately drop dead, except for the four Icon children.

Dol and Ro are survivors of The Day, the invasion of The Lords.  They each have powerful emotions that surpass what normal humans feel, leaning more toward the supernatural.  The Ambassador and her Sympas, the people who are basically working for The Lords, capture Dol and Ro, and bring them to the Embassy, though we're not sure what their motivations are.  There they meet Tima and Lucas, two more Icon children, and try to figure out why they are different, what the Embassy wants, and if they have the power to take down the Icons.

The four of them, with the help of Fortis, destroy one of the Icons.  All this is happening while the love triangle between Dol, Ro, and Lucas heats up.  Dol and Ro have been friends as long as they can remember, and Ro makes no apologies for the way he feels about her.  She, however, is conflicted, and starts falling for Lucas.

In IDOLS, the four Icon children are running for their lives.  Away from the Embassy, the Sympas, the Lords, and toward a dream girl that Dol has been seeing in her sleep.  This girl has the marks on her wrist, and she's calling out to Dol for help.  The group later finds themselves in East Asia, tracking down this girl, with a group of people that they don't know if they can or should trust.  Tensions build, as do relationships, but nothing is for certain, even until the very end.

Margaret Stohl delivers an incredibly original sci-fi duology with this series, and I'm so glad that I picked it up.  If you enjoyed ICONS, you will have to know how this ends, and what plot twists the author has in store.  I thought this one was a little slower than the first book, and I do wish the four had used their power more, just to make things a little more interesting (and it seems like it would've been to their benefit).  I think there will be those that love the end and those that don't.  When I read the synopsis, I knew I had to brace myself, I just wasn't sure what for.

If you like books like The 5th Wave and I Am Number Four, or movies like Edge of Tomorrow, I think you'll really enjoy this series!
