First off, I want to send Andye a HUGE thank you for having me here on Reading Teen! I've become quite the regular here, which is fabulous! But if you haven't seen one of my reviews yet, I'm going to review Snow Like Ashes a little bit different than others. I'll be writing a letter to the book, saying what I did/didn't like, similar to how I normally review on my own blog! Be sure to check out more of my review letters at Pivot Book Reviews!

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. The Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been searching for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild their kingdom ever since.Dear Snow Like Ashes,
Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, Winter’s future king—she would do anything to help Winter rise to power again. So when scouts discover the location of half of the ancient locket that can restore their magic, Meira decides to go after it herself—only to find herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics, and to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.
Oh dear lord, your cover. It's so pretttyyy. *pets* That's totally not a pick-up line, or anything, but seriously, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't attracted to you. Anyways, so I saved you in my tbr stack from Andye for last, because I just wanted all the time in the world to enjoy you, but that didn't really happen, because I sped read you. I'll admit the first 100 pages of you were a tad slow, but that's to be expected of an epic fantasy series like yourself, because hello. World building. After that, I couldn't get enough of you. When does your sibling book come out? Wait-you aren't even released yet? Oh, boy. I'm already crying inside at how long I'm going to have to wait.
Let's back up a tad, and talk about your story, shall we? Your main character, Meira, is totes fierce. She has a chakram for goodness sake! That's the first time I've seen that in a book that I can think of, which was aweseome! But Meira is one of the eight survivors of the Winter Kingdom who wasn't enslaved when it was taken over by Spring. It's been sixteen years since Winter's defeat, which has left them all homeless, without a monarch, and without magic, (Gasp!) but Meira's group is trying to steal back Winter's magical conduit, and finally Meira is able to go on a mission to retrieve it herself for the first time. She succeeds, for the most part, but things just go downhill from there, and Meira is put in the middle of a world filled with good (and evil) magic and a new life, where she struggles to find out who she really is and where her destiny lies.
So on top of Meira the Fierce, we have Mather. Mather is her best friend, and long time crush, but there is to be no romance between the two, because he's the future Winter king. I felt like Meira only really fell for Mather in the first place, because he was the only person around her age that she was ever around growing up. Sure, he was nice, but not really swoony. Enter Theron (he's a Prince!) and that's when all my swooning began. I was "le sighing" all over the place, because not only is Theron a Prince, but a Prince that is super nice, caring, artistic, and...wait for it...he adores books! Meira, seriously, if you decide you don't want Theron...I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE! (For reals)
Once your action began, Snow Like Ashes, it was a struggle to get sleep at night, because I found myself wanting to forgo sleep altogether in favor of savoring more of your words, but I fought with myself over that because I didn't want to finish you either, because remember that long wait I have in store for me? Although, I do thank you for not ending on too much of a killer cliffhanger. Seriously, I was not planning to go into reading you, and come out on the other side of a finished book, and compare it to the epic-ness that is the Throne of Glass series. Yes, I so just compared you to one of the most loved fantasy series in YA, and you deserve it. I really think your author, Sara Raasch knows what she's doing when it comes to doling out surprises, swoons, action, snappy dialogue, and a well-thought out world. When it comes to fans of ToG and also Frozen, they seriously need to put you on their pre-ordered lists, because if they don't they are simply letting go of something incredible and fantastic (you!)
