BLACK ICE by Becca Fitzpatrick {Review}

Review by Becca

First off, I want to send Andye a HUGE thank you for having me here on Reading Teen! Second, I'm going to be reviewing Black Ice a little different than normal. I'll be writing a letter to the book, saying what I did/didn't like, similar to how I normally review on my own blog! Be sure to check out more of my review letters at Pivot Book Reviews  !

Danger is hard to resist in this sexy thriller from Becca Fitzpatrick, the New York Times bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga.

Britt Pheiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn’t prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

Britt is forced to guide the men off the mountain, and knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there…and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.

But nothing is as it seems, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

Dear Black Ice,

Note to self- I shall not pick you up when it's late at night, and I have to be up early in the morning. BAD idea. Because I seriously had to pry my fingers from your pages, and force all my weight on your cover to shut you, AND THEN put you on my nightstand and try to keep my eyes closed/brain not thinking about you/get some sleep. Yeah, that totally did not work well for me, Black Ice. Shame on you!! I blame you for my lack of mental awareness at work last weekend!

I'm so serious about that, Black Ice. But I don't hold any grudges against you, because hello! How could I when I loved you oh so much?!

Let's back up a little bit though, and discuss what you are about, shall we? You follow the story of Britt, who trained for months to go back-packing with her best friend in the Teton Mountain Range, but plans go awry for Britt right away. First, her ex-boyfriend ends up going on the trip and to make matters worse, Britt and her friend get stuck in a blizzard on the way up the mountain, forcing them to seek refuge at a cabin they find. Though they quickly find out their rescuers in the cabin aren't friends- they're actually runaway criminals. Britt bargains for their lives by promising to guide the two men off the mountain, but things get crazier from there, especially when she remembers a few girls have been killed nearby in the last year, and soon Britt doesn't know who is a friend or a foe, let alone who to trust.

Okay so you can see why you're a little addicting and hard to put down now, right? Black Ice, you are seriously the most suspenseful book I have ever read in my life! So much action, and drama, and crazy-ness resides inside your pages! I think the main reason I had such a hard time putting you down was because I felt like I had to know what happens as soon as possible!

Your characters were well developed as well. I loved Britt right away, and the way she handled everything. That girl is a fighter, and I have no doubt that I would never be able to go through what she did. Plus her flashbacks on encounters with her ex and bff really put perspective on a few things. I really disliked her best friend and ex though. I had no idea what Britt saw in either one of them, and I think she started questioning that herself towards the end of you. It's so hard to talk about the kidnapper guys though, without giving the story away! I'll just say that one of the characters was scary mean and the other? Well, I *le sighed* a lot for him, regardless of him being the kidnapper. Stockholm syndrome, I know. Gosh. I can hardly blame Britt's feelings, because I felt them myself!

I'll say one thing about you though. I didn't guess what was truly going down until I neared your ending, which really surprised me. I kept changing my mind about who did what the whole time I was reading you, Black Ice, but I never suspected what really happened. Bravo to your author, Becca Fitzpatrick!(Also, YAY for name twinkies! Becca's are pretty cool people, but I might be a bit biased!)

All in all, I shall be book-pushing you like crazy, Black Ice. If someone hasn't pre-ordered you due to lack of love for your author's previous series (psst, I didn't like it either!), well then, I shall change their mind, because you are a stunning read. Ask anyone that was around me while I was engrossed in you, and they will tell you that I was obsessed, because when I wasn't able to read your lovely little pages, I was constantly discussing you with my coworkers. Suspense, love, drama, excitement, mystery...what more could someone ask from you, Black Ice? You are, without a doubt, one of my new favorites of the year, and I shall be rereading you soon, though not on a night that I have to get to bed early. I learned my lesson on that!

All my love,

This is a picture of Becca holding
Talon, not Black Ice. Don't get
confused. We are posting this
because Becca looks cute holding
Talon. Not that she doesn't look
cute holding Black Ice, we just
don't actually have proof of that.
