What if, after spending a lifetime deceiving everyone around you, you discovered the biggest lies were the ones you've told yourself?
Grace Fontaine has everything: beauty, money, confidence, and the perfect family.
But it’s all a lie.
Grace has been adopted into a family of thieves who con affluent people out of money, jewelry, art, and anything else of value. Grace has never had any difficulty pulling off a job, but when things start to go wrong on the Fontaines' biggest heist yet, Grace finds herself breaking more and more of the rules designed to keep her from getting caught...including the most important one of all: never fall for your mark.
Perfect for fans of Ally Carter, Cecily von Ziegesar, and Gail Carriger, this thrilling, high-stakes novel deftly explores the roles of identity and loyalty while offering a window into the world of the rich and fabulous.
Lies I Told was an exciting and adventurous ride that will keep you hooked until the very last page. Michelle Zink has created a story that is unique and fun, taking you inside the world of conning, and the families that make it their life.
The concept of following parents that have brought up their adoptive children to be cons was fascinating and surprisingly a bit emotional. Told from Grace's, the daughter's, point of view allowed the reader to be right there with her along for the ride, and really made you feel for her and her brother throughout their struggles with the life they've been given.
The one complaint that I did have with the story was the romance between Grace and her "mark." I felt like it was a little rushed and underdeveloped, but I did LOVE them together! I was definitely rooting for her to make the right decisions when it came to Logan and especially Selena, her new and "real" friend.
It was definitely a quick read (I read it in one day), but that did not at all take away from the story. I was kept turning page after page, and there wasn't a dull moment. The book leads up to an intense and crazy ending that will be a shock!
Overall, I really enjoyed Lies I Told, and am happy to know that there will be a sequel, as I can't wait to see what happens to Grace after everything that went down at the end! If you're looking for a quick and fun book that will take you on a unique adventure, Lies I Told is the perfect choice!
