Top Ten Books I've Read So Far In 2015

Becca Speaks...

Oh, hey, look. It's my very first Top Ten Tuesday post!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke & The Bookish

This week's topic is Top Ten Books I've Read So Far in 2015, and you wouldn't believe how terribly difficult it was to narrow my choices down to TEN (cough, I mean, eleven, because I'm a rule-breaker). The following books are listed in no particular order, because I already had a hard enough time just picking them. There's no possible way for me to number them from most fave to least!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas - I mean, this is SJM we're talking about so OF COURSE I LOVED ACOTAR! *le sigh*

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan - I just finished reading The Royal We, which is basically fan fiction of William & Kate. It's not a typical "Becca Book", (which is funny considering the main character's name is Rebecca/Becca/Bex) but oh dear, I am so glad that I listened to all the hype surrounding this one, because it was perfection!

Under A Painted Sky by Stacey Lee - A historical western + gender bending + COWBOYS + AMAZING friendship = a very happy Becca indeed.

Violent Ends by Shaun Hutchison - another recent read for me, but what stood out to me was how completely engrossed I was. I've been working 17-18 hour shifts each day these past few weeks, but I gave up an entire night's sleep to finish this book. Each chapter is written by a different author, kind of like an anthology but it's all connected like an actual book. It's about a school shooting, but not the actual event, and it is  SO phenomenal! Pre-order this one! I simply cannot say that enough!!

The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows  - There is so much hype about this book, and at first, I wasn't sure why, because the beginning is pretty slow, but once I hit about halfway through, I was HOOKED. I cannot wait for The Mirror King. PLUS DAT COVER!

The Wrath & The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh  - I savored The Wrath & The Dawn, because it is a book that is meant to be savored and salivated over. I miss that world so much already!

The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord - I mean, it's Emery Lord aka BECCA'S TOP FAVE CONTEMPORARY AUTHOR, so of course, I adored this one. I didn't think it would be possible to top Open Road Summer, but I was wrong to doubt Emery. She topped ORS times a billion with The Start of Me and You. So quotable. So cute. So nerdy. LOVELOVELOVELOVE.

Shutter by Courtney Alameda - I like to describe Shutter as Vampire Academy/Ghostbusters. The writing is full of snark, creepy monster ghosts, ghostbusters, swoony boys, and an action-packed plot. I NEED A SEQUEL, COURTNEY!!!!!!!!!

The Winner's Crime by Marie Rutkoski - The sequel to The Winner's Curse. If you haven't started this series, WHY NOT?! I can't even with how much I love it.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab - Another surprise book that I loved. I picked it up due to hype, and holy crap! It is so worth the hype. It's like Harry Potter for adults. Lots of magic, fantastic world-building, a GIRL PIRATE, and amazing fashion! Yup, I said fashion. Where can I get one of those coats? Anybody know? :P

So what are some of your top favorite books of 2015 so far? Are any of my faves some of yours too? Let's discuss!

  1. Ooh, I had not heard of this Royal We you speak of, but I ADORE William and Kate. So I absolutely must pick that one up at some point! Looks like a good list you've put together thus far. Imagine how hard it'll be to choose only ten when you have double the selection pool at the end of the year. :P

  3. OMG I'm so ashamed of how few of these I've read!!! Only ADSOM, The Winner's Crime, & TW&tD. All of which I'd put on my favorites list as well. I'd have to add SIX OF CROWS because it has just become one of my top 5 of all time!! I can't even remember what else I've read this year. haha

  6. ACOTAR and ORPHAN QUEEN are on my list, too! WRATH AND THE DAWN is coming up on my reading list!! This wasn't my favorite of Lord's books, but I still enjoyed it. It is KILLING me to wait on WINNER'S CRIME buuut I know there will be no ARCs and I can't stand a year of a cliffhanger soooooo I am waiting. I've been trying to read A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC since I had an ARC last year...I now have a hardcover and STILL don't have time, grrrrr!!!

  7. I really want to read a Darker Shade of Magic and I'm totally going to check out Violent Ends; I'm curious now! This is the second list where I've seen The Royal We so I must admit I'm a bit curious now. haha

I loooved ACOTAR and The Start of Me and You! I'm dying to read The Royal We, might start this weekend. And I still need to get to The WInner's Crime and Wrath. 2015 has been a good reading year! A few of my favorites (besides rereads of course): Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel, Rook, Stitching Snow, Lion Heart, Every Word.

I loved The Wrath and The Dawn, and ACOTAR! I haven't read A Darker Shade of magic or Winner's crime yet but I've heard good things!

  17. I'm so glad that The Wrath and the Dawn is on your list. I just packed that one to go camping with. I also LOVED A Court of Thorns and Roses! SO good! Happy reading.

    Top 10 @Libby Blog

  18. ALL THE YES TO ACOTAR, ADSOM, SHUTTER, ORPHAN QUEEN AND THE WINNER'S CURSE!!! AND I ALSO HAVE TO AGREE 100% WITH THE WRATH AND THE DAWN!! Sorry for the all caps, but boy those books deserve them!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes! Pick it up! Pick it up! I promise you wl love it! Haha yes, I'm already dreading that list because I know it will be a million times harder! :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. You should definitely read The Wrath and the Dawn! It's so amazing! Thanks for stopping by, Jessica!

  21. Well, I keep a handy dandy notebook of all the books I've read, so that was the easy part for me. Picking them, on the other hand, was so so hard! I'm planning on picking up Six of Crows ASAP because of all the praise you've been singing! :P

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kara, they are both fabulous! I hope you love them as much as I did!

    ReplyDelete
  23. It was amazing! I hope you love it when you get to read it! I'm happy you loved all the ones I listed too! :) Thanks Carina!

  24. Yay for loving the same books! I hope you love ADSOM and tWatD just as much as I did. They were both fantastic! As far as Emery's, I love anything she writes, so it's been torture for me to wait for her next one! I held off on reading The Winner's Crime for as long as I could because of the same reason. I read the 1st as an arc and the 2nd too so the wait for the last one is going to be excruciating!!

  25. ADSOM is phenomenal. I really wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did, because high fantasy can be a hit or miss with me but it was a total hit and I cannot wait for the next one! Violent Ends comes out in Sept, I believe, but it is so darn good. It killed me having to put it down for a few minutes! The Royal We is super cute too. I'm hoping we will see more of those characters in the future! But I do hope you enjoy them all when you get a chance to read them, Lauren! :)

  26. Whatever! You are so not failing! Hahaha especially since some of them are on your TBR! Like I always say, so many good books, so little darn time! Miss you girly!! Hope all is well with you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I hope you love The Winner's Crime when you get a chance to read it. The cliffhanger is pretty big though! I don't know how I can wait for the final book!

  28. Yes! Start The Royal We!!! And I totes agree about 2015 being a good reading year. I have had so many amazing reads! I've been hearing A LOT about Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda so I think I'll be buying a copy of that sometime soon. Haven't heard of the 2nd one though. I'll have to check it out. I still need to read all of the others though! I'm so behind on reading! It's not even funny!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yay! I'm happy to see more Shutter love! I feel like not that many people have read it so I try to push it as much as possible. It deserves it! Thanks Lauren!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Rissi (that's a super cute name btw!), you should totes read The Royal We! It is so good!! Haha and I agree about Emery's book...actually all of her books are on my all time favorites ever list! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks Holly! They were both excellent! I HIGHLY recommend them both! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think The Winner's Crime is even better than the 1st so you should definitely pick it up soon! Waiting for The Winner's Kiss to come out is horrible though! I need more Arin and Kestrel in my life asap! Thanks Megan!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes it's my first! But I'm already looking forward to doing another one! Hahaha no! You aren't the only one! I've heard the audio for The Wrath is fantastic, which is good, because the book in itself is too! I hope you enjoy girly! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. All of them are amazing!! I hope you enjoy ADSOM and Crime when you get a chance to pick them up Jacklin! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh that is a perfect book to take camping! I hope you love it. I tried to read it as slow as I could because I wanted to savor each word. I'm going camping in a few weeks, and need to pick out my camping books! Ahhhh yes ACOTAR was SO SO SO GOOD! I am dying for ACOTAR 2.0! HAPPY READING AND CAMPING! :)
