BLOG TOUR: The School For Good & Evil by Soman Chainani

Hey guys! We have a super special guest post from The School For Good & Evil's author, Soman Chainani today! Without further blabbing from me, I give you Soman! (Also, be sure to enter the EPIC GIVEAWAY at the bottom of this post!)

Reading Teen: Can you talk about the upcoming movie?

Soman: The rights to THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD & EVIL were purchased outright by Universal Pictures in late 2013. Over the next year and a half, I wrote the script along with Malia Scotch Marmo, the screenwriter of HOOK and MADELINE, and who also was my professor at Columbia Film School, when I studied writing and directing there. The film will be produced by Joe Roth (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, MALEFICENT, SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN) and Jane Startz (TUCK EVERLASTING, ELLA ENCHANTED), and will come out on Christmas, 2017.

The movie will just cover the first book, with the hopes that the sequels will address each of the following books in the series. Having written the movie myself, I tried to stay as true to the book as possible, while also providing a number of surprises for the fans. I can’t guarantee that my version is the one that will ultimately end up onscreen though. Unlike publishing, film is not a writer’s medium, and the studio will ultimately have control over what shows up onscreen. I will continue to fight for the fans and their attachment to the series and try to ensure the movie is what it should be… but in Hollywood, there are certainly no guarantees.

As for casting, I know quite a number of readers have been anxious to audition for roles, and I’m hopeful we’ll have a process for open auditions in the course of making the movie. I’ve heard talk of shooting it in London, but no confirmation yet on who’s directing and what the process of casting will be. We should be in full swing by next summer.

For more on the movie, visit the Movie News page at, and check out the last book in the series, THE LAST EVER AFTER, released around the world in more than two dozen languages, on July 21st.

Thanks for the "insider" info, Soman! Now, about the final installment in the series.....

About The Last Ever After:

In the epic conclusion to Soman Chainani’s New York Times bestselling series, The School for Good and Evil, everything old is new again as Sophie and Agatha fight the past as well as the present to find the perfect end to their story.

As A World Without Princes closed, the end was written and former best friends Sophie and Agatha went their separate ways. Agatha was whisked back to Gavaldon with Tedros and Sophie stayed behind with the beautiful young School Master.

But as they settle into their new lives, their story begs to be re-written, and this time, theirs isn’t the only one. With the girls apart, Evil has taken over and the villains of the past have come back to change their tales and turn the world of Good and Evil upside down.

Readers around the world are eagerly awaiting the third book in The School for Good and Evil series, The Last Ever After. This extraordinary conclusion delivers more action, adventure, laughter, romance and fairy tale twists and turns than you could ever dream of!
