As you may or may not know, August 18th is Percy Jackson's birthday!!! If that wasn't enough, it is also the release of Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes! But that's for the end of the post. So if you feel like skipping all the fun and being a buzz kill ;P go right ahead to the giveaway.
To celebrate Percy's birthday, obviously requires a party! I'm going to give you all ideas on how to throw an amazing Percy Jackson birthday party.
You don't have to go searching around the planet for one, THEY'RE EVERYWHERE. I've found a couple really cool ones though:
#2 PARENT TEST
You're only allowed to invite demigods, obviously. Most of them won't know their godly parent, and even if they think they do, Frank thought his was Apollo. We're all wrong sometimes. I took this one, and I like it. Not too obvious.
#3 BEAD NECKLACE MAKING
Every year the campers get a bead, in the book it shows the most important event of that year. Below is a picture of what Annabeth's necklace probably looked like at the end of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, THE LAST OLYMPIAN
#4 SWORD AND SHIELD MAKING
This is essential for capture-the-flag, obviously. Nothing makes a 14-year-old girl feel nerdier than owning a sword, shield, and a CHB t-shirt. My neighbors make swords using PVC pipes and a WHOLE LOT OF DUCT TAPE. It actually works really well. But you can also use cardboard and duct tape. HINT: My library makes it with paint stirring sticks. I found that it was too short using #1 and too flimsy using #2. So unless you want short ones, I wouldn't use those :).
#5 FLAG MAKING
It's time to show your cabin pride by making a flag with those in your cabin. You can go off in a random direction but it's better and more efficient to put your parent's symbol on it. Do a contest, see which cabin can make the best one. (Example: Athena's Owl, Zeus's lightning bolt, Poseidon's trident, etc.)
#6 CAPTURE THE FLAG
Now that you have your weapons, and your flag you need to get on this game. Each team has a flag, pick a random one, or do the one who won the contest. Your goal is to guard your flag and steal the other team's flag. That's where the weapons come in (no maiming!) instead of tagging, you ward them off with your sword! If you get stabbed, you're dead (sorry not sorry).
It must be blue on the inside, or else you will fail miserably. So you have two choices as I see it, a brick like cake, like the one in the book. Or this:
#8 PIN THE EYE ON THE TYSON
Ha! Like pin the tail on the donkey. But with an eye. And a Tyson. Good for younger kids. Give them a spin and a blindfold. Simple but fun. For older kids make them SUPER dizzy and watch them run into walls. That sounds like fun!
#9 GIFT BAGS
Fill these suckers up! Blue jelly beans are a must have! Maybe some random knick-knacks like PENS!!!! Go to the dollar store/section and pick out anything blue. Then you're set.
#10 LAST BUT NOT LEAST
You have to invite me. It's required if you don't want all of CHB storming on your house.
If you thought I was terrible at any of this, or you just can't get enough Percy awesomeness, Disney has a downloadable Activity Kit for GREEK HEROES! Click HERE for more information!
Don’t forget to order Percy Jackson’s GREEK HEROES, the companion to the national best seller Percy Jackson’s GREEK GODS available today, on Percy Jackson’s birthday, August 18, 2015.
On-Sale: August 18, 2015
Who cut off Medusa's head? Who was raised by a she-bear? Who tamed Pegasus? It takes a demigod to know, and Percy Jackson can fill you in on the all the daring deeds of Perseus, Atalanta, Bellerophon, and the rest of the major Greek heroes. Told in the funny, irreverent style readers have come to expect from Percy, ( I've had some bad experiences in my time, but the heroes I'm going to tell you about were the original old school hard luck cases. They boldly screwed up where no one had screwed up before. . .) and enhanced with vibrant artwork by Caldecott Honoree John Rocco, this story collection will become the new must-have classic for Rick Riordan's legions of devoted fans--and for anyone who needs a hero. So get your flaming spear. Put on your lion skin cape. Polish your shield and make sure you've got arrows in your quiver. We're going back about four thousand years to decapitate monsters, save some kingdoms, shoot a few gods in the butt, raid the Underworld, and steal loot from evil people. Then, for dessert, we'll die painful tragic deaths. Ready? Sweet. Let's do this.
